Seems like the drum mount has gone. the drum bangs backwards and forwards, so much so that the metal front off the machine has dents in it. it turns off after 3 or so bangs. Is this repairable or do i need a new machine
SOURCE: the drum bangs on the spin
Two possibles for this are aloose balance block or cracked drum spider. The front block is most prone to coming loose.
To check spider rotate drum little by little and pull towards you to check for movement.
Post back if further help needed.
Thankyou

Several possible reasons for this. M/C not level, causing it to move about.
Overloading of m/c.
Loose concrete balance weight, there is one at top and one at bottom.
Suspension spring broken or unhooked.
Suspension leg loose or broken.
Main drum bearings worn, to check this, turn drum by hand and if it feels noisy or rough , then bearings have gone (expensive repair).
There are other possible causes, but these are the main reasons.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

This sounds like a classic case of main drum bearing or drum support failure, it is a major repair and not really a DIY repair, unless you are coversant with w/m's
It involves a complete strip down and in some cases it is neccessery to to have to replace the drum as well.
The cost of the parts involved is well in excess of £100.00,and it really is not an economical repair.
I think you would be better off buying a new washer.

Thanks.

Several possibilities here.
First and fore most is the drum support or main drum bearigs are failing., more likely to be drum support
The pieces of plastic you refer to are from inside the outer drum, because what is happening is the inner drum is catching the outer drum, and breaking the plastic inside.
You are going to have to strip it down to determine the exact cause, what I expect you will find is that the alloy 3 legged drom support has corroded away,a nd the drum has come loose.
Hope this helps you solve your problem
