Seems like the power to the XM2go is very flaky - can't tell what the source of the problem is;
Symptom - the charging + sign turns on an off. More often off, and the battery runs does and then it shuts off. This is not a loose connection - it goes on and off when it is sitting still when it sitting still on the shelf. But stranger than that - this happens when the reciever is in the home cradle and the car cradle, and when the dc power input from an AC source if plugged directly into the bottom of the receiver, but not when I plug the cigarette lighter power cord input directly into the bottom of the receiver when in the car. (Not a great solution however, because I can't plug in the antenna to the receiver directly, and as we all know, the portable antenna is worthless).
This problem first appeared in the home crade. I thought this might be a problem with the cradle, and was able to instead plug all inputs into the car cradle and use in it my house as well as the car. But then the same problem developed on the car cradle. I got a new XM2Go from a relative who never activated his, and tried replacing all accessories on the old XM2go -- it appears not to be caused by either the battery, the cradles, or the converter inputs.
This has a black battery in it - which is what I think was the newer replacement battery, for what that is worth.
Any ideas what the issue is?
Battery is new ,charging pins is tight and good connection then. Intermittent, inconsistent, problem this caused by circuit board trouble, needs to reworks the solder joint of all the ICs there,by using a hot air. This common problem of this kind of unit..
Hope this may help you;

Get the device checked at the very local repair /service center so they can give u the proper estimate to get it repaired.as per your comments given till now its necessary to check the parts 1 by 1 and for that you will have to buy the parts.but in that repair center they will have all the necessary parts in spare so that they can temprory replace the parts and check where the problem lies exactly.
as its the ON/OFF problem it could be because of several reasons
1)loose connection somewhere in the wires of the device.
2)battery problem.
3)device internally got a circuit breakage where the charging connector is fitted. so soldering needed compulsory to make it work.
4)cradle problem.so reparing or replacement needed.
5)then it could be the problem of charging pin in the receiver.
6)it could also because of moisture or dust setteled in the device or on its connection.blowing hot air through hair dryer could also help.
and this all the doubtful problems can be checked more properly on site with the device in front so get it checked first to get the perfect estimate as sometimes its just the problem of servicing and cleaning the device and we just go on replacing the parts.
I think that there is no problem with the battery... there is a problem in the charging pin of the receiver... if the charging pin is not in proper condition then it wont charge the receiver properly.... so better contact the manufacturer and replace the receiver if its under the warranty period...
Try replacing the battey.

If it is charging regularly on car charger, it is possible that is the cradle, or the power adapter, that's right. If it does not go well even when battery is charged on car, then the battery is also defective.
Here is the cradle: XM2go Home Cradle for Tao XM2go
And this is the entire home adaptor kit, with wires and power adapter.
The powwer adapter must read approximatively 5V, here is the replacement 5-Volt Belkin Home Power Supply or 5-Volt Home Power Supply
If the charging turns off and on , it is likely to be the cradle. Test the power adapter with a multimeter.
If power adapter is OK then is the contact in the cradle.
Check also if there is oxide on the connectors in the cradle.
Ensure that power adapter connector is not faulty, if it is ok replace cradle here Home Cradle for Tao XM2go.
Thanks for the update.
If it happens on the three cradles, and power is intermittent, then the problem is the socket at the base of the receiver.
Check if the socket is dirty or has oxide. If there is oxide remove it with circuit cleaning solution, you can buy it at any Circutcity shop.
If you do not notice anything abnormal, it is one of the contacts behind the socket, this can be fixed by a good phone repairer, or any good electronic repairman.

When I said I tried swapping out all accessories with the new (and functional) XM2go, that included swapping in the new battery from the other unit - did not help. So I did not think it was worth purchasing a new battery. Also, given the price of a battery, I can get a newer model XM receiver.
I had already swapped the old battery with a new battery from the other XM2go that I got, and that did not solve the problem.
I don't think its the charging pin - that solution seems eliminated by the fact that when I plug the DC input from the car cigarette lighter directly into the bottom of the receiver, not using the car cradle, the problem does not occur. That is why I initially thought the problem was in the cradle.
See earlier comments - direct connection to DC input from car to bottom of receiver (without cradle) maintains a good connection and the receiver takes a charge, so does not seem to be a problem with the input pin.
I don't think this is a cradle problem - the problem exists in all three cradles that I have (2 home cradles and one car cradle). I also think it occurred with the other cradle I had (but can't retest, because that was stolen from my car with the newer XM2Go that I had.)
Here is my theory - The reason it works in the car with the DC cord plugged directly to the bottom of the receiver is that there is something about the shape of that cord plug that allows the pin to fit more securely when directly plugged in than when in the cradle. The configuration of all cradles may be such that the pin does not go in as deep, or tight, or something, and make a good connection.
I think that the second proposed solution (problem with receptor socket pin is the closest), but I think no cigar. Reason is that (a) it's out of warranty, and (b) it's not an electronic problem.
Here is what I think I need from the experts -- in retesting, I have discovered that in the home cradle if I pull the top of the receiver forward, it will make a connection and charge (the plus sign comes on the battery on the screen) -- that is harder to do in the car cradle because it is in so tight. I think this is a wear and tear problem with the pin receptical(s) in the bottom of the receiver caused by frequent reinsertions in the cradles.
So here is what I need from you experts -Can anyone advise on taking apart the XM2go and accessing the base receipticals from inside the case so that I can examine and tighten the receptical so that the receiver does not have to be pulled/jammed forward in the cradle to make a good connection?
Since these receivers are made to be portable and move from cradle to cradle, if I am right, I am surprised that this is not a constantly recurring problem with the XM2Go (and probably other XM receivers). [I have an original SkyFi that seemed to develop the same problem, that I gave up for dead - I'm going to go back and test this receptical theory as well on it.]
I need a DIY solution if one exists, because (a) I don't find anyone who purports to repair these receivers, and (b) the bench fee is probably more than a replacement.
To solution 1:
I have had several suggestions from experts and the comments reflect responses to their comments (which apparently do no show up). You have listed all the "usual suspects" - what I was hoping to find was a recognition of a common problem with a well known solution. I do think that it is physical problem, not electronic, and probably due to weak attachment of the recepticals at the base of the receiver.
By the way, on a short check of the internet, I really did not see anyone repairing these receivers, or purporting to have expertise in them. I rather doubt the bench fee at a nonspecialized repair service would be worth the price of the unit.
After a month of experience, I am confident that the problem is with the receptical at the bottom of the XM2go -- I am able to get it to reliably connect to power through the cradles by (a) in the home cradle, putting a heavy object behind the receiver to force it forward in the base so it makes a good connection, and (b) in the car cradle, wedging a couple of pennies between the cradle and back of the receive to force it foward in the cradle. Any DIY suggestions of how to open up the receiver and fix the reptical allignment?
So - guesses as to bad battery, oxide on plugs were not valid solutions.
