This Camcorder does not support USB streaming with the Windows 7 Operating System. Use an i.LINK cable to transfer the video to the Computer. The i.LINK port is also called IEEE 1394 or Firewire port. You can use any video capturing software like Windows Movie Maker to transfer the video from the Camcorder to the Computer. The Firewire to USB cable won't work with your camcorder, you will always end up with this error.
Click the link below for the instruction to transfer the video to the Computer using i.LINK cable.

You Sony vaio laptop doesn't have firewire ports ,in this case you will need to purchase and install an firewire card ..>>
see link >>
http://www.ramelectronics.net/computer-parts/computer-accessories/firewire-i-link/firewire-cards/29972/prod29972.html

If you are using a Windows XP Operating System then you have to install the USB Streaming Driver in the Computer from the supplied Software disk with the Computer.
Check this Link for the instruction to transfer video to a Computer using USB Streaming.
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C222820
If you do not have the supplied Software disk then I suggest that you use the i.LINK cable to transfer the video.
Please let me know if you need further assistance on this issue .

The solution you have given is fine. But i asked Sony service center here in my town they said they can't do that. And Sony Customer Care says i can do it with some other private service centers if its done so the warranty of the product will be voided. How can i upload you the pics of the laptop n camcoder? I want you to have a look and say if firewire card can be fixed in this particular model. And i need atleast 1 USB port out of 3 for my internet data card and pen drive.Does such card exist ? 1 USB and 2 Firewire ports card or 1 USB and 2 Firewire ports

Capture card?? What do suggest on that? Can capture card do the job? Or if you could suggest some one who is capable of fixing firewire card in Bangalore, India?

Unfortunately your options are almost zero with this laptop, the Vaio VPCEG18FG is not equipped with an firewire socket or PCMCIA SLOT, you have to use a Firewire socket to get mini dv video onto your computer and nothing else and you cannot use a USB to Firewire cable or convertor as they are rubbish.
If your DV camera has analog outputs Composite or SVHS you could always capture using a USB capture device, your quality won't be as good as native DV but its pretty much your only option with that machine.

Another option is to purchase a cheap laptop that has a Firewire socket /port/jack or a PCMCIA SLOT ..

It could be a solution to purchase an usb to expresscard adapter and a firewire expresscard adapter..
    http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Expre...
    http://www.amazon.com/SIIG-JU-EC0032-S1-...

You need to make sure that the USB Based Expresscard Adapter is compatible with the Firewire ExpressCard.

My DSR 45 Firewire port is fried. Any idea which Problem with the Sony DSR-45 Mini DV VCR

DSR-45's firewire port is held on a separate littlle circuit board, easily reached from the underside of the deck. Remove the bottom panel, unplug the cable from the Firewire board and there is 1 screw to hold the firewire board in place. The part is called DV-032 on Sony's Parts website and costs about £30 UK including postage to buy.

I have a laptop with e sata port, How can I transfer vedios from my DCR HC 40 to laptop through esata port?

You can't use the eSATA port for this purpose.

The good news is that this is one of the few Sony mini-DV cameras that can transfer video through the USB port. Most such cameras have to use Firewire (what Sony call i.Link) for this.

There is a Sony tutorial page for downloading video to computer at THIS LINK

You will need to select Windows or Macintosh as the operating system, then Mini-DV as the camera type, then select the type of connection. As you will see, the USB option warns that it won't work with many cameras, and you are strongly recommended to use i.Link (which everyone else calls Firewire), however, the DCR-HC40 is on Sony's list of cameras that WILL transfer via USB.

I'm looking for the driver of sony handycam CDR-TRV22E so that i can transfer the video to my pc. thanx.

You can download drivers and manual for this camera from this page.

Advice on how to do the transfer is on this page. (You need to select Mini DV)

Sony recommend using Firewire instead of USB to transfer video from this type of camera.

This camera has both USB and Firewire (DV) connections. Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. The USB cable is less standard at the camera end, so search for one that is compatible with your camera.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card.

I need to download the sony DV DSR-PD 150 P driver software

The camera doesn't need drivers, but it does need an application that will take DV input. If you have a Mac iMovie will do that, provided you have the FireWire cable for it.

Bad DV Out Port

There are settings like on pg 211 of your manual you might have to switch from analog out to DV out. I bet thats it. There are other options around pg 221 for USB output settings but I didn't see any conflict but it doesn't mean there won't be some.
Good Luck. Leave a comment if you need more info . Just in case here's where to get a copy of the manual: http://www.mannlib.cornell.edu/equipmentandrooms/upload/DSR-PDX10.pdf
