Dryer is Hotpoint NVL333EYOWW
I suspect the blower isn't functioning properly. Can feel the heat inside dryer, clothes tumble but don't dry. Also, the top of the dryer is very hot to the touch when operating on regular heat. Have any ideas? How do I get to the blower to replace it? Thanks for any info.
Before ripping into the dryer, with the dryer running, check the vent outside. There should be a rather strong air flow. I'll bet you have little or maybe no air flow. Check behind the dryer to make sure you don't have squished flex duct. If you have flex pipe, try running the dryer for a few minutes with the dryer pulled out into the room to stretch the vent out, and check outside airflow again. Try to eliminate all or as much of the flex stuff as you can, replacing it with aluminum dryer vent pipe. (tape joints with foil duct tape) Clean out remaining dryer vent. (there are special brushes you can buy to clean out vents, but they really only work on ridgid pipe.)
Well, there are three things you need to dry clothes:
1. Heat
2. Tumbling
3. Air flow
If your air flow outside is strong, your blower is OK. Did you check the air flow outside before you moved the dryer? I've seen many dryer vent pipes slightly offset (2 or 3 inches) from the dryer outlet, connected by flex dryer pipe. The dryer is pushed back and the vent is nearly blocked off. Pull the dryer forward (restoring the opening, and thus full air flow) and dryer works. Also have seen lots of flex vents coiled back and forth behind dryer or kinked off at an elbow.
Another thing which may have happened is that one of the two heating coils of the heating element may have sagged down and touched the dryer frame. This will cause constant (but usually insufficient) heating while the dryer is running. Without a ohm or amp meter, the only way to really tell this is to look at the actual element. If you want to check that I can list steps. (elements are behind dryer drum)
To access heating element:Use a putty knife to push in at the seem of the top and front panel, two spring clips, to release the top and swing the top back.
Remove one screw on each side near the top of the dryer, which are holding the front panel to the side panels. A phillips will work, but a #2 square drive bit works much better for the screws on this dryer.
The front panel can now be pulled away from the dryer at the top and lifted off the two tabs at the bottom, then swing the entire front panel to the side. No need to disconnect the wires.
Remove the one screw at the top center of the dryer opening holding the plastic tub block.
Release the belt. Easiest way is to take the back access panel off to gain access. It is the louvered panel at the lower left as you face the dryer from behind. (four screws)
There is a ball on the back of the drum in a plastic socket. To remove the drum, lift up about an inch or so on the drum (sort of hard) and then pull the drum out through the front of the dryer. Visually inspect element.
Dryer is actually manufactured by Frigidaire (Electrolux) part # 131776500 is assembly, but if you go to a big parts store you should be able to get just the coil. I use Sundberg here in the midwest. Sorry I don't have that number here with me at home and it does not show on the diagram, but should be available.

MNTECH - Thanks for the quick reply. Checked airflow outside. It is a strong airflow. Checked the flex pipe. It is clear. Other ideas?
MNTECH, Thanks again for the response. The dryer did work again at least temporarily and the dryer top was not hot to the touch. Don't really know what I did to get it working again on regular heat other than running it on "no heat" for 15 minutes or so and then turning the setting knob clockwise to a regular heat setting. Who knows with the next load. I don't think it had anything to do with the flex vent tho as we did examine it and tried drying with it outstretched. At the time the dryer did not function properly as previously described and the top was extremely hot to the touch. Perhaps the heating coil did sag down. What would be the steps to check this and if found to be sagging what would be the remedy? Thanks for the additional info and advice.
MNTECH, Thanks again for your timely response and the information. May try to tackle and fix this myself or save the headache and buy a new dryer. If I try to fix it, I will advise on the outcome.
clothes tumble heating element is lit clothes do not dry no lint on lint screen this is a whirlpool dryer
Hoover 5020D Clothes dryer is not heating up, all other functions are working as normal, it just doesnt get hot.
