Do not attempt to just replace valve components this is not a proper repair, just replace the complete inlet valve

The warning light comes on because the machine "thinks" that something is wrong. Since it stops on and off something is wrong.
Why not phone the Whirlpool service in your area and tell him aboout this and ask what you can do??

thanks for your advice. I have an AWO 3551 Whirlpool front-loading washing machine. It works but I think it's highly likely that the filter needs a clean and is long overdue. I've opened the front plate and unscrewed the plastic cover but the filter doesn't come out at the same time. It seems pretty stuck and there is nothing to get a purchase on (unless I get pliers and turn counter clockwise - but slightly concerned that might break it...?) Any suggestions of how to make it 'come out to play'?!

Providing that the tap is turned fully on AND the hoses are not kinked or squashed at the back, this is symptomatic of a malfunctioning water control valve- the hot water one, if the washer is hot and cold fill, and the cold one if it is just cold fill!

all washing machine perform a drain cycle before any wash - that's just the norm geoff.

I'm assuming you'll be getting an F1 fault code

Sounds like the inlet solenoids have gone. get your multi meter on the solenoids - the readings should be around 3.4kOhms - 4.4kOhms

If this proves ok then you'll need to do a 'live test' on the power going to the solenoids at the start of the cycle. (Take all precautions so as not to give yourself a shock) you'll expect a reading of 180-230v

If the resistance across the solenoids are between the given values and you're getting power to them then the fault lies with the water supply.

If there is no power going to the solenoids at the start of a programme then you need to check wiring back to the CCU for continuity. If the continuity proves ok then you'll need to replace the programme timer mate
