Amana LE7153WM drier will not start... makes a low humming sound when you push in the select dial to start the drier

You did not post the model number and to be sure, we would need that but, it sounds like the ignitor is burned out.

check for a problem start/run capacitor for the motor
there may be a overload button that has popped out

open door and turn drum clockwise by hand,listen for scraping"something hung in front or rear drum seal"close door and try start.if it still hums you may have a bad timer or motor ,or switch on motor.you may need to call for service on this one

Is it a squeel or a hum / rumble? 1st run your hands around the tyres especially the inside. Check for hi and low spots on the tyres. If the tyre is hi low hi low hi low it makes a shocking sound. if it is a squeel noise have they checked your brakes cause brakes have squeelers to let you know they need changeing

usually the humming sound is coming from the motor,try this,open the door,turn the drum with one hand and hold the door switch in with your other hand and have someone else push the start button at the same time,this might help the motor turn on but if it does you need a new motor,if you can't turn the drum you could have something stuck in the blower wheel or something jammed in the motor like a broken belt but like i said a humming sound is usually the motor.

the motor is not turning and that's what is humming,you either have a bad motor,something stuck in the blower usually a sock or the belt is stuck

The thermal fuse and the heating element would be the likely suspects. Both can be checked with an ohm meter. If there is no continuity, it indicates a defective component. Neither is repairable and if either component is bad, it will have to be replaced. Hope this helped. Good luck.

motor is most likely bad shorting out in the windings

There is a coil in the set with a magnet glued to it, called the horizontal linearity coil. Sometimes the coil "sings", making a squeeling sound. I have seen this many times, and there really isnt anything actually electrically wrong with the set. To stop the squeeling the coil should be replaced.
