What the mechanic is talking about is the degree of the camshaft gear to the crankshaft. The easiest way to do this is with a degree wheel, but the timing degree should not have changed during rebuild and is pretty hairy to change manually. The marks on the flywheel are degree marks, and there should be 1 timing mark. You will have to find out from a kawasaki dealer which mark to use for correct timing. Hope this is what you were needing, Daniel.

My bike is fully rebuilt it's a 1997 Honda CR250R when I go to kick it over it just backfires it seems to have a very faint spark I replace the stator and ignition coil got the correct spark plug and...

Time to go back to basics and ensure the ignition timing is correct. Remove the spark plug and highlight the timing mark or make a mark on the flywheel/rotor that indicates a few degrees BTDC and use a stroboscope to ensure the marks are approximately in line when the kickstarter is operated fairly vigorously.

Could be something has been fitted wrong or has been damaged. The electrics/electronics are fairly complex and I am not familiar with the model. I don't know how the ignition is triggered for instance, but I once encountered a 2-stroke that had seized but refused to start after the rebuild. The engine had stopped so suddenly the flywheel (rotor) had kept going for a very small amount of time and had become twisted so the relationship between the hub/crankshaft keyway and spark timing had been lost. A replacement flywheel was fitted and it started first kick...

Distributor will not turn far enough to set timing. it hits the water hose at 5 degrees btc

remove the distributor and turn rotor arm back a bit as its on a screw gear at the bottom ,or remove the plug leads and move them all around one outlet backwards or forewards as the case may be ,old school mechanics this when i sat my exams they gave me all the parts of the distributor and the timing gears with no marks and i had to rebuild and start engine with a starting handle ,showing my age here i think -cars with points and timing chains

3.5l dohc 95 model idles but wont rev chokes and splutters engine recently rebuilt

Sounds like the timing is off or something wasn't synch'd up correctly during the rebuild. Check the timing and make sure the vacuum lines are connected correctly, especially the vacuum advance which advances your timing when the engine RPM's are increased. Start your timing at 5 degrees before top dead center, the 5 mark on your timing marks, this is the most common baseline setting for timing. If you have to set it advanced beyond 10 degree or retarded beyond 0 then your timing chain was not aligned correctly between the Pistons and the Valves or cam shaft.

My timing chain broke in my 2002 ford explorer 4.0..and after rebuilding the heads due to damage to the valves, but now how do I put the timing chain without the marks on there?

theres 3 sprokets stacked verticaly correct? the bottom shaft keyway should point straight up. the 2nd shaft keyway should point straight down. finally the top gear keyway should be pointing straight up. alittle mark on the gear teeth should match a mark on the lower gear teeth.

Firing order and timing for 292 ford

The firing order is 1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2, distributor turns counter-clockwise. The ignition timing can be set using marks on the vibration damper. The wide mark is TDC (Top Dead Center), each mark after the wide mark represents 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 degrees before TDC. Set timing 3 degrees BTDC (Before Top Dead Center). In addition, valve timingis set like this: Intake opens: 12 degrees BTDC
Exhaust Closes: 8 degrees ATDC

Timing marks and procedures

If it is the 2.5 EJ25 motor the marks ar on the cover and pulleys. Top pulleys are Single line straight up and double straight down which should line up with bottom pulleys double marks. This should line up the single lines on bottom pulleys with 90 degree mark on outer cover both sides. The center pulley for crank should be straight up with notch in block.
