I had a newly-repaired (warranty repaired) machine until I did a bios update and pro technicians want $200 just to look at it. First I had just a blank screen that I was able to workaround seeing on an external screen but when I tried the F5, lost that too. I've tried various F keys. I've read to reset the bios on my Toshiba p15-S479 Satellite and to do so I should short the terminals of the bios chip. This is rather vague and I am unable to find the bios chip or a schematic. Any help here for a do-it-yourselfer?

Added info - My laptop unexpectedly restarted while upgrading BIOS and at first would not boot at all. I tried several times and the screen remained blank although it was on and my senses told me it was just the screen, which is why I tried an external screen. The external screen worked until I started playing with the F5 and other keys trying to get the laptop screen to work. I cannot find a key combo to get it back to the external screen either now. All is blank but power is on and I suspect all parts are good.

SOURCE: Booting Notebook using external devices.

This should do it for you.

On the Phoenix BIOS:
Go to "Advanced BIOS Features".
Go to the "1st Boot device" and set it to "USB-ZIP".
(Phoenix BIOS, Revision 6. you need to go to the Boot Order screen and select "Harddisk" and hit enter, giving you a list of IDE hard drives this BIOS prefers to call a USB device an IDE harddrive)

BOBBIN SLIPPING AND STOP EMBROIDERY

First, call the technician and see if he will honor a warranty on his repair work. Next, sew on the machine until it messes up again. Do NOT take all the stuff loose. Take the machine, the garment, the thread, everything just as it is to the technician. Don't even lift the presser foot. He will probably find the problem.

Usually, on a problem such as this, it is the wrong bobbin, the bobbin inserted the wrong way, the tension not working , not threaded correctly, a rough spot on the bobbin case or the bobbin case is not properly positioned. Some times the thread jumps out of the thread take up lever.

Dead satellite 135-S4656

This is bad, very bad. It sounds like the bios flash glitched. The bios is the root system programing that allows the machine to function. If you had a bad flash, then the entire motherboard may be shot. You will definitely have to take it to a shop for a professional diagnosis, or send it to Toshiba service, especially if it's still under warranty, since it is a newer machine . If you send it to Toshiba, DO NOT tell them about the flash. If you do, then you're free game for them to charge you full price for the repair if it's still under warranty.

Trouble with new PC

if you have win xp as the operating system, take it back and ask for win 10
That is what should have been installed before purchase as win xp has not been supported by microsoft for the past 2 years and is far out dated
take it back anyway and have the computer technician sort out the problems under warranty

Bios update

Hello!!

I am not sure after installing which update the display has gone. I mean Windows update or HP software update or BIOS update.

Let me take the senario of the BIOS update and assist you in this regard.

If the display has gone after installing the BIOS update, then the issue cases are 1. Installed wrong BIOS update 2. Notebooks might have restarted or hanged while installing the BIOS update.

In both the cases BIOS will get currupt and there will be no display on the notebook.

Solution for the issue is: If you notebook is under warranty, HP will arrange for mail-in repair, plss contact HP. If the notebook is out of warranty, then you need to contact HP authorized service center.

Can't Get To Advanced Options

XP updating to SP1 seems a little odd in february of 2008, why not SP2?

To get into your BIOS you need to hold down escape key as you turn your laptop on and keep it held down until it reports an error, then press F1 to check BIOS. You can actually alter BIOS from within the OS environment with Toshiba laptops through a utility called HWSetup and I suspect that's where your problem lies.

Make sure your audio device is enabled in BIOS and if you need to re-install HWSetup you can find it here:

Hope this helps,

Cuisinart cbk-200

In the troubleshooting section of the manual it says that HHH indicates the unit needs to be serviced. It's got a 3 year limited warranty, so they should be able to repair it under warranty.
