The evaporator coil is frozen. i have had this problem for a while. i just figured it out. i believe the compressor is not shutting down. everone else is talking about a bbad fan but that might be a symptom of a frozen coil. i am further investigating.

  • I found if you unplug the fridge for 2 days resets the control board or just unplug the refridgerator completely defrost it, a shop vac flipping the hose around blowing on the coil speeds it up, unplug the control board. plug the board back in. plug the fridge back in. has worked for me 3 times also clean the coils

Ice build up in the freezer

Sounds like your door seals are not seating causing moisture to migrate past the seal and condense and freeze. Check to see if this is true will small strips of paper. If you place the strip in the door and pull, you should have some resistance. If you pull and it moves freely, your door seal needs to be realigned or replaced

The bottom freezer works but the refrigerator will not get cold. model# MFF2557HES

Sounds like airflow fan needs to be replaced. Most fridges use a small fan that blows air from the freezer to the refridge. If that fan fails you get working freezer and non cool fridge.

42'' monogram getting very hot between doors and in unit above

This is typical for frost-free refridgerators/freezers. In order to keep ice from buiding up on the interior walls of the freezer section, the manufacturer installs electric defrosting elements and extra "warming" elements in the outer edges of the cabinet, normally around the door openings to help mitigate any frost/ice build up and surface condensation that typically occurs on the exterior surfaces as the doors are opened and closed frequently.

These edge warmers stay very warm to keep ice and condensation from accumulating and will become VERY very warm (hot) when the fridge/freezer is in the once a day defrost cycle.

Unless you have an energy saver switch (GE trademark) inside the fridge section, which you can turn off, there is no way to disable these added elements. If you find that you're getting ice building up in the freezer, you'll need to turn off the energy saver switch to resolve that issue.

Energy Saver switch "ON" means these elements are off, while having the ES switch "OFF" means those heaters are running all the time and costing you more in energy consumption

Turn on fridge

Press the Ice Off button and the Freezer button together for thirty seconds. Set your temps at 36 for refrigerator and 0 for freezer.

if that doesn't work, press the freezer button and the energy saver button for thirty seconds and do the same thing.
