Bottom of freezer/fridge only getting cold.

Amana side by side - 7 years old.

Compressor seems to be fine (although it is a bit hot) and the relay is ok.

The bottom of the freezer is blowing cold but it doesn't seem to be reaching the top of the freezer (where the ice maker is). The bottom crisper on the fridge side is also cold but not up to the top shelves. So - only the bottom of both are getting cold but nothing on the upper levels.

Not able to produce ice either. Thanks for any help!

Jamie

Thre is a fan inside the freezer which circulates the cold air around both the fridge and the freezer compartments.
You should be able to feel cold air blowing around the inside, particularly at the top of the freezer.
If the defrost thermostat fails open, the internal fan (depending on freezer) will stop and this can be the cause of the freezer being warm at the top and no ice.
You say the bottom of the freezer is blowing cold, but are you sure its blowing, as it can feel like a cold blow. Of course the fan could have failed or may be the defrost heater itself.

Fridge and freezer not getting cold although fan is on and it sounds like the compressor is on. But has now stopped running so I unplugged. Is the compressor gone? This fridge is only 8 years old.

Most times the compressor start relay and run/start capacitor may be defective. If the fans run yet compressor gets very hot on top it may be trying to start and cannot because those mentioned components need replaced. Pull away from the wall, unplug and lets remove the lower cover that hides the compressor. If compressor is hot it just may be short cycling because it need these components=> MTB1954ARW Compressor Components

Amana side by side, buzzing, no fan in fridge.

that sound is the relay/overload. it is trying to start the compressor. the problem is either that relay or the compressor itself

Amana side-by-side fridge freezer only cold at the bottom

yes the evap fan in the frezer should be running when the compressor is running[it may not for a minute or so as it starts up.Amana's are good for the connectors at the evap fan motor comming apart.the connectors are white and will look like its together but when you pull it will come apart.i would always cut the connector out and use a wire nut so wont happen again.if any other questions please email thru FixYa and i will be glad to help. God bless ,tom
