Hi, I am sorry it took this long to get back to you and I promise I will get right on this. We are having issues with our e mail notifications.
You say this is a new vacuum, do you mean brand new? never used before? I am going to look into the dirt devil problems and see if we can narrow down the causes. I assume you tried this in several outlets to make sure it is not the outlet. Does the motor run at all? or is it running but the brush not turning and not picking up dirt.?
This model is also notorious for the roller bar going bad. When the roller brush can't spin because it's bearings have worn out, the motor shaft continues to try and turn the belt, but since the belt can't spin the motor shaft at that point burns right through the belt.
To make sure that it's your roller brush, remove the brush from the vacuum cleaner, and hold it using just your two pointer finger tips, holding just the bearings caps at the end of the bar, and not the bar itself.
Try to spin the brush using your thumbs. Does the brush spin freely without resistance? It should spin completely around 3-4 times on each spin. If it doesn't spin, then your bar is bad.
If the brush doesn spin, and it continues to break belts, this means that the belt is being installed incorrectly, and is being pinched by the roller brush. Pull the belt forwards after installing to make sure the brush spins freely.
If the bearings are tight, you can clean them with rubbing alcohol. Just put a few drops on and spin them. Repeat this until any alcohol running out is clean. NEVER oil brush bearings, they will grab onto dust and jam again. They're mounted in bronze bushings, which are self lubricating.
I believe there are three screws in the baseplate, turn it over and remove the screws and then it should start coming apart, you can also look this up on You tube under Dirt devil brush replacement.
yes, I received it as a gift new. I checked the brush, unscrewed the plate over the brush....nothing in the brushlike hair or lint.ins't there a guarentee on a new one????
I removed the plate to look at the roller brush but nothing moved and I didn't see a belt. are you sure there is a belt in sight. WHY DON'T I HAVE A GARANTEE ON THIS SINCE IT WAS PURCHSED IN SEPTEMBER....
YES, THE MOTOR RUNS..........
Hi, I can't acces any comments, I saw you replied but they are not coming thru, contact me at [email protected] for any furthur assistance, Thanks and soory but the mail and messages on the site are not working.
Hi ,looks like we got our issues with comments corrected and I can now see them when you reply. YES there is a garuntee on one you just got in Sep. Take it back asap. Most likelythe bearings are bad in this or the belt is squished and out of place, But I would take it back and get a different make and model. These have a history of the brush problems and arent worth the time and money to keep repairing. I prefer te top guality vacs for durability, like the OREK or Dyson but thos are expensive and if cost is an issue then check out the different models of hoover brands at Sears or K mart or even wal mart. Try to stay away of the low doller vacs because thats what they are low value and they don't last long and over the long run cost more to replace and repair.
