I bought an Acer Aspire 2920 laptop yesterday. I just cannot get any sound(s) out of it at all I think I`ve done everything as per instructions re muted speakers etc I am a computer dinosaur though - its driving me nuts and as it is a present for my daughter tonight I really need to sort it urgently please please somebody can you help!!

There may certainly be an issue with the built in microphone on your computer, but the problem may be a simple driver issue.

The following steps should reveal whether it's a driver issue or not

1.-Click Start>Right Click "My Computer">select Manage, a new window should open

2.-Select Device Manager in the new window, if you see any yellow question marks (other devices) those are drivers that need to either be updated or installed, if none are shown, check to see if you can find a listed microphone driver.

3.-go to the Acer Downloads and support page and select your laptop model

Make sure you select the correct model, as this will affect the results of the download greatly

4.-Download the appropriate drivers and restart your computer.

IF THIS DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE, CHECK YOUR MICROPHONE VOLUME, AND IF NO ISSUES CAN BE FOUND, BRING YOUR LAPTOP TO A LOCAL SERVICE TECHNICCIAN TO REPLACE THE MICROPHONE, IF LAPTOP IS STILL ON WARRANTY, TAKE IT TO THE RETAILER YOU BOUGHT IT FROM AND HAE THEM FIX IT ON WARRANTY

Only way is to remove the CMOS battery for an hour or two and hook it back. It should work.
Optional is conatct Acer they would have a Default password for all the machines that they produce.

You probably got a disk with your laptop when you bought it that had all the original applications on it. If you can't find that, you might be able to call Acer and have them send you a new one.

Sounds as if screen is going out..

Make sure that another webcam application isn't running such as Crystal Eye or whatever program you use to take pictures with the webcam.

use the task manager, (ctrl+alt+del) and go under processes, and look for anything that seems like it is related to your camera and end process them! and try again!

Gen the problem is that your pc is too slow to take this much load the best thing is too move your pc back to windows xp professional 32bit service pack 3 or vista homr premium service pack 1 and try upgrading your pc by more ram if it can take it
