Make sure the lid is not cracked, and it has a good o-ring, use magic lube for lubing o-ring and threads. you can use electrical tape to wrap around fittings to find suction leak. there is a gasket kit for your bw valve once again magic lube works great for this

Thank you for your help...we got hit by tornadoes in April and I think we might have some insulation somewhere possibly the impeller? Trying to at least get pump running and pool clean so we can close til next year! Thanks again...will try new o-ring.

How to replace filter sand

  1. Open air relief and drain plug to allow air into filter and water out.
  2. Take apart filter, remove all nuts/bolts/screws/fasteners and separate the filter. Could need some force to separate
  3. Use a shop vac to suck out the sand or a cup, be careful not to be too violent, if you damage laterals sand will go into the pool
  4. Check the laterals, No cracks or damage
  5. Close drain plug.
  6. Go to pool/home store buy POOL SAND. Amount required should should be posted on the filter somewhere. any extra will go into pool, or backwash out.
  7. Add some water about halfway of the filter, slowly add sand back into filter, dont be too violent. be careful not to get sand into any piping it will go back into pool.
  8. Prime the pump(add water to it) backwash the filter for 2~3 minutes
  9. Close air relief
  10. Run pump on normal open air relief as need to let excess air out .

Hi, I have a thermoplastic sand filter t450 model. Every time I leave it in filter mode, water from the pool seems to drain out rather than filter water from pool. When I leave it in backwash mode,...

The "spider"gasket in the backwash valve needs to be replaced. It is not hard to do. If you undo the 6 bolts on top of the valve lid the "key assembly" will lift straight out. Inside the valve body you will see the gasket.

Water flow comming out the back wash when filter is in the filter position. I checked a few things but it seems like it might be getting air from somewhere.

The seal inside has rolled a bit because when you push down on the lever to move from backwash to filter the plate insde didn't lift high enough. Remove screwsoff lever housing reset the gasket insde and you should be ok

What do i do with the waste line port on the multiport valve on a hayward filter. do i attach a fitting to stop air

No. That port is there for when you backwash or pump to waste. You normally put a hose adapter there that allows for a collapsable backwash line to be attached when ready to backwash the filter. If it is leaking water there when the valve is set to something other than waste or backwash yuou need to replace the internal gasket in the valve.

Sand dollar sand filter has great pressure on backwash but has very low pressure on filter then after a short time does not have any pressure water does not move at all. I changed sand and cleaned...

Generally, if the filter loses pressure in the filter mode, you have an air leak somewhere. When the filter is low on pressure, check your pump basket area. If there is air in the basket, that is the problem. It could be a bad o-ring under the basket lid, or the air release on the valve, but it will need to be found. Check for drips around the equipment also.
