I have it broken down with the plastic drum apart. can't get the metal drum to drop. seems like the spider shaft is stuck in the inner bearing from the seal allowing water in. I have the outer drum supported and used a block of wood and a hammer on the shaft, but it feels solid. do I have to remove the metal plate on the rear section of the outer drum to get to something else first? the service manual really dose not get into changing the bearings. Watched a video on a different model, and of course the shaft just dropped out.
The best way I can suggest through my own personal experience is to turn the tub upside down withthe spider shaft facing down. Hold the tub up in the air about a foot and drop the whole tub on to the ground letting the shaft hit the pavement. It may take a few times to do it but it has always worked forme.
Hope this helps.

Thank you Richard, once I remembered I was replacing the spider, I just gave it a few GOOD hits with the hammer and it dropped. Unfortunately, 2 of the spider bolt nuts spun in the lifter housing, so now I need a new lifter and new bolts. After reading about changing the bearings, I ordered the bearing, the seal, new shocks, the tub O-ring, and spider. In hind sight, I would have just ordered a new tub that comes with the spider attached, and save my self the aggravation. So now I wait for the added parts.
You should order the drum assembly that comes with the spider because the drum is covered by an extended parts warranty. Check your owner's manual for the correct information. If it is covered, you should see if you can return the spider and get the drum from LG. Good luck.
