Go to the BerninaUSA web site, select Support, then scroll down to Out Of Print Manuals.

I have several Bernina 530 models (made mostly in the 50's and 60's) and they are wonderful machines, but then I love mechanical things! Plus, I love the green and cream colors!

Just be sure to clean and oil it regularly to keep it working well.

I recently acquired a Bernina 530-2 record with a frozen decorative stitch change lever and needle positon mechanism. I've tried oil and heat, but its still frozen. Is there anything else I can try?

I've worked on several 530-2 machine--recommend liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube alternating with heat. Note: It has taken me sometimes nearly a week to get frozen mechanisms released. Just a lot of patience, persistence, and elbow grease... Focus on those particular areas that are still resistant.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

My Bernina 530 is not stitching as nicely as it has been even with the walking foot. Had 3 months and have had super results until today. New needle, rethreaded, re did bobbin, cleaned all lint away

It is the older mechanical Bernina 530 Record or the newer computerized Bernina 530?

The mechanical model may need a thorough clean and oil.

Without knowing exactly what symptoms the machine is exhibiting, we are limited in our ability to assist.

Purring sound on Bernina 530

If it is the new Bernina 530 computerized model, they do make a particular sound when started up. My 440 makes a peculiar sound at startup, but I've become used to it. I believe part of it is setting the machine to the default settings, ie positioning the needle, etc.

My Bernina 830 will not switch stitches. It says the number but shows straight stitch and sews straight stitch

Is it a new 830 computerized model or the older 830 Record mechanical?

If it is the 830 Record, it needs oiling--1-2 drops of good quality sewing machine oil (specifically concentrate on the stitch selector lever and oil the metal parts that move against other metal parts) Do NOT oil the cams, plastic gears, any rubber parts, ie belts, bobbin winder wheel.

Be sure to oil your machine regularly. Use Fresh "good quality" sewing machine oil. Apply 1-2 drops of oil every place shown in the instruction manual (look for the little oil ports/holes). Do NOT oil rubber, plastic, leather, or belts.

I have just bought myself a very old unloved looking bernina record 530 for $5. Would love to clean it up and service it myself if u think this is possable...also it has knee control which is abit touch n...

Hi, I also have a 530 Record which has sewed an "illegal amount of km's!" Get a copy of the manual thru' the web, you won't find one for the 530 but the 530-2 & 532-2 manual will suit as they are very similar models. Make sure you oil it at designated places- too little AND too much both can give problems. Check condition of the belts. The machine should sew at a reasonable speed, if not or you think there's a problem with the knee-control, it could well be that the motor is on it's way out, (like mine). I'm trying to get mine rewired. Good luck & let us know how you go! Sam

How to identify a bernina sewing machine

Older machines, the model number is found on the throat of the machine and sometimes stamped on the cover over the motor. You can also give me the serial number stamped on the machine and I can look it up for you. I am a certified Bernina/Brother dealer and technician.
Perhaps look at Ebay, you may get lucky before your eyes become crossed looking at the many many Bernina models out there.
