To reset Bad Battery light on the Smart cells:

Old smart cells have a removable cover on the back to allow the "socketed chip" to be replaced.

Newer ones have SW1 pads on their circuit board.

Newer Smart Cell or XR Cabinet

1. Unplug the phone cord from the smart cell and wait a minute for the controller to go to sleep

(Bad battery indicator goes dead)

2. Then push the reset Button while plugging the phone cord back in.

3. If it is blinking after plugging back in, disconnect and wait till dead and try again.

4. If the batteries are good you should not get a light at all. Retry the reset at least 2 more times before

blaming the card.

Older Smart Cell

1. Unplug the phone cord from the smart cell and wait a minute for the controller to go to sleep

2. Short pins 17 and 28 (Right Side, Top and Third from the Bottom), while plugging the phone cord back

in.

When it works the red LED will be blinking indicating a bad Battery, it should stop blinking when the phone cord is plugged back in.
Note: Smart Cells are functional when LED is blinking

How to reset date after replacing batteries for apc matrix 3000(mx3000pe)ups

First you need to get a APC serial cable from APC. Next connect it to a com port on your computer and the back of the APC. On your computer start Hyperterminal. Enter a file name. Anything will do. Slect your com port. Set the following setting to 2400 data bits and none for flow control. Leave the other setting as is. Hit enter twice and enter APC for user and APC for the password. The program will come up. From there it will be easy to set whatever you want. OH!!! make sure your UPS has a network card installed. If not you can't change anything.

I need to know what the modular cable is that goes between the main unit and the batteries on a Matrix 5000. Is it simply a cross-over mini-RJ11 (handset connector) cable?

ccowl, APC has a great website. Have you tried it yet? The knowledge base they have on their products is huge. The cable you are speaking of may just be for monitoring battery voltage status, but that is only a guess. The interconnect cable could be a proprietary APC cable and only APC knows how it is wired "end to end" !!! 12fixlouie

Set the Battery Date on a Matrix 3000 UPS

According to the user manual (available here: http://www.refurbups.com/KB-M-Matrix) this can only be reset by using the PowerChute software available from www.apc.com and requires the unit to be connected to a computer.

Matrix 3000 "bottom fan fail" need a replacement fan. APC said they don't have in stock and is discontinued.

The APC Matrix-UPS 3000 Isolation Unit IU bottom fan APC part number appears to be 490-0006-A. There are three OEM parts that APC appears to have used:
NMB Technologies 4715KL-05W-B30-P00
Japan Servo CNDC24B7-34
Sunon KDE2412PMB1-6A
But any fan that has the following specs should work:
119mm x 119mm x 38mm, plastic (black) 94V-0, ball bearing, 2-wire, 24 VDC (9.0V min, 10V to 27.6V), 2800 RPM, 80 CFM min, 41 dbA max

Could you tell me how many batteries a matrix UPS 5000 has in it as well as an APC Smart UPS Smart cell

A UPS 500 uses two smartcell batteries. As for the APC Smart UPS, there are different models, but most UPS's will generally use two batteries.
