Scattered black lines appear then screen gos black, but still have good volume

Sometimes it may take a few minutes to turn black and other times when you turn on the tv it will never show the video, but audio is fine. I can slap the left side of the tv and picture will almost always come back on. Volume bar is visable when adjusting volume and mute symbol will appear. Sometimes it will alternate back and forth without doing anything and then it will stay black, then I give up. Unit is about 9yrs. old. I also performed the auto convergence. Picture looks great when it comes up. Please Help!!

Hello 4fiddy,

You have actually diagnosed your own problem, Let me explain; the line "I can slap the left side of the tv and picture will almost always come back on" This indicate some form of poor connection (cold solder joint). If you have a soldering iron, solder (circuit type not pipe type), and a multimeter. Use the soldering iron and solder to redo the cold solder joints , and then test it (the connection) with the multimeter.

I hope this helps

Thank you,

Hitachi 55VS69 screen goes black and there is no volume and it will not turn off unless unplugged.

The key here is you have to unplug it---it means the problem is related to the microprocessor which may become confused because of an issue elsewhere in the set---no real easy answer except it may be expensive to locate and fix.

Unwanted rectangular black area appears on screen blocking 40% of picture

This could be the result of a partly shorted vertical winding on the deflection yoak.Since the line is on an angle and not straight across.

Sony Trinitron KV-32S40 32" TV problem

This is a simple and common problem. The solder joints on the vertical output IC have cracked loose. I actually did a housecall on the exact same set with the exact same symptoms this morning! A good tech will resolder the pins of the vertical output IC and all other major solder joints on the main board and the set will play fine.
