When i turn on the power button on my Olympus fe 340 all that happens is the light between the playback button and the shooting button flashes and then powers off, can anybody help i am not aware that it was dropped or damaged recently

Please look for clock sign on buttons to turn on-off timer function. Press clock symbol button to turn on timer function, press shutter button to start timer (10 seconds delay) to take picture.
You could try removing the battery for a 30 minutes, re-install, then try powering it back up. It sounds like something may have been damaged internally from the camera being dropped.
That is how the camera is supposed to function. When the shutter button is depressed it automatically assumes you want the camera to be in shooting mode to take images.
