My daughters toshiba model PSM43U- won't boot

You should be able to do a clean install of Windows. Just insert the installation disc and press any key when indicated. Optical drive needs to be the first boot option. Go into BIOS and change it is not.
As for disc, you have to use the same Windows version as indicated on the MS Product Key sticker, because of the serial number.

I have Toshiba P745- S4102 . When I open a window it freezes. I have to do a hard shut down each time I turn on my laptop.

Can you get to safe mode? Remove ALL Media, DVD, CD, USB, unplug, remove battery, plug in, reboot.

If your computer is working fine, then disable PXE boot in BIOS or remove from 1st boot option. This is a LAN (network) boot option. It can't find a DHCP server, that's why the media test failure is displayed. It's usually used to load an OS image from network.


For the most part not a real problem. More of a warning. Some corporate models use PXE to mass image.
If there is a problem (won't boot) then it lost communications to hard drive, and you need to check BIOS for hard drive.

You can see if your Toshiba laptop audio driver is install by going to "Control Panel", then "Device Manager". Look on the list of componenets and see if any have "?" mark next to the description on the device. If so your audio driver may be corrupted or not installed properly.

You can retrieve your data by removing the hard drive and connecting it to an USB hard drive adapter then plug it into the USB port of a working computer. This computer will see this as an external storage device, you can then open the various folders and files to back up your data.
You can then return the hard drive back into the Toshiba then format the hard drive and reinstall Windows to get your Toshiba working again.

It may only need to be re-soldered to the board. Sorry, the manufacturers do not provide components, only complete boards (at a high price).
