We noticed that the freezer was not freezing well anymore, and the refrigerator was not getting cold anymore. I defrosted it, because the freezer was frosting up, which was weird because it is supposed to be a frost free. There are two vent holes in the top of the refrigerator that come from the freezer. They were plugged up with frost and ice. So I thought that defrosting the refrigerator and leaving it set for about six hours would help, but to no avail. What should I do next? This refrigerator is only a few years old.

SOURCE: both refrigerator vents had frost and we defrosted

NOTE: This
is a multi-solution answer since I don't have all the tech from your question to pinpoint your problem
But the solution is in here generically, if you read and study the solutions very, very carefully.
First I would check cold control. Thats where you turn it off, if your temp is not warm. it can
be defective and not shutting off. If your temp is warm proceed with the following.
I would check the fan in the freezer. Listen to see if it is running
It moves air to the ref from the freezer
Then check to see if FREEZER CONTROL is turned WARMER WHICH MAKES THE REF COLDER AND VICE-VERSA. SEE?
The ref. temp should be about 33-35
The Freezer temp should be 0 to 10 Any thing below these temps is overkill and a waste of elect
The higher the number you turn it up to is the coldest
But is probably a common defrost problem The ice build up
is not being melted by the defrost system. The fan can't blow through the coils into the fridge.
Take out back panel of freezer to check for ice buildup. The coils should be clean.
There are three components to a defrost system- a heater, heater thermostat, and a timer unless you have a defrost electronic card.
Its best handled by a Technician but you could possibly do it by taking your model number to the nearest appliance parts store and asking for the parts. They are mostly located in freezer ,behind back panel on freezer coils.except the card which is usually located in ref The parts store will have info
Also check fan undernearh Ref in the rear
Clean condenser coils underneath
Make sure back cover is on the fridge. Some take them off and throw them away.
make one out of cardboard if its gone, using the holes of the old one.

THE FILL TUBE IN BACK OF REFRIGERATOR CAN SLIP

REMOVE THE ICEMAKER AND INSPECT THE FILL TUBE.
RUN WATER IN TUBE TO ELININATE BLOCKAGE AND CHECK

Hello there,
When your refrigerator starts building up ice at the back of the refrigerator and is not getting cold, the problem actually is caused by defrost settings of the refrigerator.
The defrost settings is composed of the defrost thermostat, defrost heater and the defrost timer. If any of the three should go bad, then the refrigerator would begin to build up ice and not cool.

You will have to test the defrost thermostat, heater and timer. Mostly the problem used to be the defrost thermostat.Once you check the three and see that they are okay, then you need to refill the gas cylinder with refrigerant.

Clean the condenser coil, refill refrigerant and test the thermostat, heater and timer.

That would get your refrigerator up and running.

All the best.

Not getting or staying cold.

If its not getting cold or freeze then this problem is related to weak compressor. The compressor is the part which controls the cooling of whole refrigerator. When the compressor gets weak, the cooling and freezing both will will get effected. But if the freezer is getting friezed but fridge section is not getting cold then-its defrost problem. Try manual defrost by unplugging the refrigerator from main power outlet for 4 hours then reconnect it and check, if the same problem is noticed again,. If yes then its defrost board problem. The defrost board located in the back of fridge section. You can get required parts from www.repairclinic.com or from online sears part site. ------------- Thank you.

IMy freezer is not getting cold enough anymore

We need to check to see if your freezer is defrosting properly. I am pretty sure your refrigerator has a defrost timer located inside the fresh food compartment behind the control panel. Unplug the refrigerator and remove the rear panel inside the freezer to have a good look at the evaporator. If frozen over defrost with a hair dryer. Then let me know so we can test the defrost heater and thermostat. Your model shows a defrost timer and that is the most likely reason if you find the freezer evaporator coils frozen over. See if you can locate the timer first and turn the timer slowly clockwise until compressor stops. Wait 25 minutes and the timer should turn the compressor back on. If it does not the the timer will need replaced. Let me know what you find, Thanks, Sea Breeze

GE refrig side by side 7-8 yrs old will not freeze frig not cold

Generally, This would be a sealed system problem. An inefficient compressor or low refrigerant. If you notice a build up of frost on the freezer panel it might be a defrost problem, but, I am leaning towards an inefficient compressor.

I have a Roper RT21LMXKQ00 Freezer wont freeze

The problem is a defrost problem. The freezer coil has frost on it and thus restricts the cold air from flowing. This affects the refrigerator as it gets its cold air from the freezer. The ice will not make if the temperature is above 12*F and this also is why ice cream is like mush.

Freezer to cold refrigerator not cold enough

sounds like your defrost timer is not working properly . Most fridge/freezers the fridge gets cooled from the cool air from the freezer . But when the defrost timer is not working properly the section between the fridge and freezer freezes up and hence doesnt allow the flow of cool air into the fridge. The defrost timer can be easily replaced.

Top freezer Freezes/ Bottom not cold

defrost problem. advance defrost timer to defrost (till it shuts off) . remove freezer panel, check voltage and amps to heater,if heater is hot, replace timer, if heater is cold and no voltage, replace defrost limit switch. defrost all ice, carefully! with hair dryer, no poking with screwdriver.
