This can be the MAIN power supply in the protect MODE as it is possible that there is a short within in the driver sections. You need to be equipped to check as it involves isolating the circuit, check the + B to the related circuits . Check the SMPS, remove the connections to the main board and see if the voltage build up . If so you cane proceed to isolate the circuit which seems to short the power supply. check for heating components which can indicate a fault.

Tv getting no power

HI
MOST TV'S HAVE A SMALL FUSE INSIDE TO PROTECT THE CIRCUITS.
OPEN THE BACK CAREFULLY AND LOOK FOR A GLASS SEE THROUGH TYPE FUSE ABOUT 5 AMP SIZE.

No power

Check the power cable and test a different power outlet.

If you are in UK also check the fuse inside the TV power plug.

If you do not find anything wrong , then either the fuse on power board, or one of the power board capacitors had blown, and the TV must be disassembled and tested to fix the problem.

No souned

check that you haven't muted the sound by accident. Look for a speaker icon in the task tray at the bottom of the screen on the right hand side. If it has a red circle with a line going through it, then it is muted. Click on it then click on the little blue speaker to turn off the mute.

If you have not got a speaker icon in the tray then go to control panel, sound and click double click on speakers then click on the blue speaker icon to turn the mute off. (For Vista)

Also make sure that the speaker wires are plugged in correctly on the back of the computer.

Possible thermal fuse problem.

I too, took off the back of my Sony TV after I started getting red and green shadows (called retrace lines) around words and people; and blew out all the dust inside hoping that would help. Ironically, I discovered that most problems with rear projection TVs are due to a malfunction located in the bottom FRONT panel, accessed by taking off the front speaker panel and then a wooden panel after that to access the circuitry, specifically this little black box with 6 screws on it. Go to www.SomeLifeBlog.com and this site has photos how to take off the front of the tv and instructions how to fix some common problems that repair people will charge you $300-500 to fix. This man, his instructions, photos, and website were a godsend. Good luck.

Tick, Tick, Tick

It could be a dry or worn bearing on a belt pulley, a dry valve lifter, or a leaky gasket. Pray that it is a leket or pulley, as they are eay and relatively cheap to repair.  also check out check to see if it shakes in drive and reverse. If it does have the motor mounts checked out they could be broken.
Sounds like you may have a bad spark plug wire, the ticking noise you hear may be the spark arching to the block or cylinder head. Open the hood at night and look for blue sparks jumping across the wires.
