I have a dc17 animal and am replacing the vacuum motor. I failed to mark the wires and now don't know where they go. There are five wires one long black wire, one long white wire, a shorter black wire and a shorter white wire and a red wire. The red wire goes to the beater/******** brush switch. I need help with the others.

No power to switch. ts there a reset button?

Check the power plug cord, might be bent so often that the internal wire)s) are broken. You can cutoff old plug and replace with new one.

We checked everything on the vacuum, except the motor. Is there a way to check? Vacuum just stopped running. Its a Dyson DC17. Thanks!

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. Like most Dyson cleaners, your DC17 is equipped with a safety device which shuts off the cleaner if it starts to overheat. This is often due to a blockage - I'd also recommend washing the filter. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=954&product=DC17-ANIMAL

The correct way to wash the filter is shown in the video linked below. The filter should be washed in cold water without any detergent, at least once every 3-6 months. Always ensure it's totally dry before replacing it - this may take up to 24 hours.

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1463&product=DC17-ANIMAL

By clearing any obstructions and washing the filter, you should be able to resolve your issue without further assistance. However, if you've followed these steps and are still concerned, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). One of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you and recommend the best course of action.

    Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. You might find it helpful to check the cleaner for blockages, since these could affect performance and may mean the filter needs washing more often than usual. The easiest way to check for and remove any blockages is to follow the steps shown in our online guide:

It's also a good idea to take a look at the video linked below, which demonstrates the correct way to wash the filters. Under normal use, this should be done at least once every 3-6 months. Use cold water without detergents, and make sure it's totally dry before replacing it.

When I tilt my Dyson DC 17 Animal upright so that I can use the hose, the vacuum powers off. As soon as I tilt it back down, it turns back on.

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC17. When you stand the cleaner upright, the brushbar motor is designed to shut off automatically. However, the suction motor should continue to run unless you turn it off manually with the on/off switch. If both motors seem to be shutting off when you stand the cleaner upright, it's probably best if you get in touch with us directly so we can resolve this issue for you as quickly as possible.

You can call us free on 1866MYDYSON - or if you email your details to [email protected], someone will be in contact as soon as possible.
