Amana drs2662aw has power going to compressor but the compressor doesnt start up

Many Amana model fridges have the freezer fan wired through the bi-metal thermostat that is clipped to the evaporator. Either your compressor has a bad start device and that is why it is not cooling, or the compressor IS running and the unit has lost its refrigerant charge. Running compressor with no cooling = buy a new fridge.
Compressor hot, but not running = start relay replacement to get the compressor going. Start Device 8201786

sounds like bad capacitor wont let compressor start up if voltage going to it but not going out replace

Check power to the compressor start relay. If power there suspect compressor fault if compressor hot. If compressor cold, suspect start relay. If no power to relay, suspect control thermostat

If the fan is running its not in the defrost the fan doesnt run then.
the things that could be the problem are;
the compressor fan is bad so compressor over heats and shuts off
the relay on the compressor is burnt so the compressor wont start
the compressor is bad

i would suspect the relay first..the fan by the compressor secondly and finally last the compressor ..its the least likely thing to go bad

Unless you find and fix the leak it will not hold the charge...
Refrigerant systems are sealed systems... if they need charged then they are leaking and it needs to be fixed...for it to work properly again.

you need to replace the rtc overload contactor located on the compressor body,there is also a run capacitor on the contactor,replace this along with the rtc contactor,this is your problem,the contactor and overload give the compressor starting power and run power to the windings,if the capacitor is bad it doesnt have enough torque to overcome the power to turn the compressor initially

is the compressor coming on if not may need a start relay how long have you tried to let it run hopefully not destroyed the compressor windings....

it sounds like a bad:

• start switch (on the side of the compressor) or
  
• compressor itself
  

the start switch clicks  off usually when the compressor is pulling too many amps or the compressor is overheating. if the compressor is not even running then its probably not overheating.

• so either the compressor is pulling too many amps (bad compressor) or the start switch is bad and cannot handle the amps required to start the compressor.
  

Sounds like you may have a restriction or blockage, may also be low on freon
