Sata drive not detected

I have an Intel D915GAV motherboard with 2.8 Ghz processor. I have a Windows XP sp2 installed on 80 GB IDE Hard Disk. A few days back I installed Seagate 500 GB SATA Drive. Now I have two Hard Disks 1) Seagate 80 GB HDD (for OS); 2) 500 GB Sata HDD (for Storage).

The problem:
The system is unable to detect the Sata drive properly. It wents off while working. Even the BIOS is unable to show the SATA drives. But after a few restarts and Bios troubleshoots I am again able to gain access to the drive.

Solution:
I tried to update the BIOS with the latest version. The problem is solved for about 2 days, and from then onwards I am facing the same problem.

I too have the same problem. My system is Intel(R) Desktop Board D915GAV, Intel(R) Pentium 4 CPU 3.0 Ghz, HItachi 80 GB SATA HDD. Recently a 750 GB SATA Seagate HDD was installed for storage purpose. The new HDD of 750 GB was detected for few days and now it is not. I shall be thankful if someone can give a viable solution to fix this problem.

Windows xp does not install

If your hard disk is a SATA disk then -
The problem is that XP installation CD does not have a SATA driver, unless you have a SATA drive on a disk etc. and can install the driver when XP asks for a hard drive driver then, XP cannot detect the hard disk and therefore won't install XP. The FIX. Go into the BIOS and disable the SATA drive (enable IDE emulation), this will make XP think it is a IDE/PATA hard disk. Then you can install XP normally. When Windows has been installed then install all the device drivers (including the SATA driver), then shut down and boot up and got into the BIOS and enable the SATA drive.

a slight overhaul of your computer

second clean your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor specifically around your CPU central processing unit making sure there is no MOISTURE in the airline

as dust will cause a lot of static which will make a computer overheat and cause lots of problems

test or replace all the leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions IDE SATA the ones that attach from your motherboard to hard drive make sure they have secure dust free connections
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

then click start run type cmd then type chkdsk/r/f which will automatically scan for and attempt to repair bad sectors and fix any corrupt files this will schedule to happen on restart

another way of running the chkdsk utility

click start control panel administrative tools computer management ,disk management right click on your drive select properties click tools you should see click check now click start two boxes automatically fix files and scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors place then a tick in both boxes then select check now start should schedule this task when restart

you should not do anything while the chkdsk utility is in progress any input may damage your computer your hard drive then defragment your hard drive

you have to keep a computer very clean & free of dust and give it regular maintenance

also you might download and use this registry cleaner it is 100% totally free to use

http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/

and you might need to uninstall some unnecessary programs
right click in the bottom toolbar select task manager applications you will see whats running
also in processes see whats ticking over
do have any tune up programs installed on your computer

hope this helps
