Yank out the filter and remove the 2 screws that hold the top to the filter chute. Reach behind the dryer and pull it forward while lifting the the front. Once you get the top popped you can easily get to the door switch. It is held on there by 2 screws. Here is my home video that show how to put together a dryer like yours:

1 Look for a tab on the top, right side or near the bottom of the front grille. The tab protrudes slightly from the grille.

2 Pull the tab with your fingers and remove the filter from the Hotpoint air conditioner. The tab is part of the air filter.

3 Insert a new air filter in the air conditioner until you hear the plastic part of the filter click into place.

4 Lift the bottom of the front grille up and out if the filter is not visible. Unclip the top of the front grille and pull it away from the air conditioner. Look for the tab to the air filter in the small cavity near the top front of the Hotpoint air conditioner.

5 Pull the tab and remove the filter. Insert a new filter and snap the front grille back in place.

On a upflow model, the factory location for the air filter is just below the blower. Remove the front furnace doors to get to it.
If it is a downflow furnace, remove both furnace doors, and look inside the blower area, they will be sitting above the blower. Usually 2 air filters, in a "V" formation and are sometimes hard to get to.
If you do not find the filters here, someone has removed them or they may have been relocated to the return air grill, a large grill, usually located in the hallway or higher up on the wall.
If the Rheem factory air filter is still being used, it will be a black plastic frame and the filter area will look like a window screen.

your best bet is to remove the front panel of the dryer and pull the front drum/blower duct assembly off the machine. You can then fully access all areas of the duct and also clean all the lint build up inside your dryer.

Look for a removeable grille at the top or back of the vac shaped similar to the filtter. The filter is an after filter so it sits beyond the bag

Grease filters change from the bottom side of the unit.

Charcoal filter is changed as follows:
To Remove Charcoal Filter
To remove the charcoal filter, disconnect power
at the main fuse or circuit breaker panel or
pull the plug.
Remove the top grille by removing the screws
that hold it in place and sliding the grille to the
left (opening the door makes grille removal
easier). Slide the filter towards the front of the
oven and remove it.
To Install Charcoal Filter
To install a new filter, remove plastic and other
outer wrapping from the new filter.
Insert the filter into the top opening of the oven as
shown. It will rest at an angle on 2 side support tabs
and in front of the right rear tab. Replace the grille
and screws.

Charcoal filter is behind the grille at the top of the oven. Find screws in front or at top of the grille and remove them.  Remove the grille by shifting to one side and pulling forward with the door open.  You should see a slot where the filter is inserted.  Remove old filter and replace with new.  Note which side of old filter is up and position the new one the same way.  The filter sits on tabs at the side and back.   Replace grille and screws.

I have a new ge 1540 and needed to remove the grill to install the charcoal filter.

After removing the two screws on top, you need to slide the grill about 1/2" to the left. Then the grill will wiggle loose and can be removed.
