Unfortunately, your charter HD DVR cable box is not a Viera link device that is compatible with the TC-P50ST30. Viera Link only works to control Panasonic HDAVI devices that are Viera Link ready (and that use the same Viera link coding) when using the HDMI cable. Thus some Viera link devices of different generations will not work with the same Viera link remote.

The manual for the TC-P50ST30 is available here: http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/TCP42ST30.PDF . See page 32 for details on the Viera link controls.

I wish that I had better news for you. However, you will need to use separate remotes for your cable box and the TV.

Would this also imply that I cannot use the remote control that came with my Panasonic TC-P50ST30 tv to control my cable box? (Scientific Atlanta 8300HD Rogers Cable)?

Need to download manual for Panasonic Viesa TCP50ST30

Do you mean the Panasonic Viera TC-P50ST30? The manual is available from the manufacturer on the product page: http://shop.panasonic.com/support-only/TC-P50ST30.html . Scroll down past the Firmware, Tutorials and Specifications sections. The direct link to the English version of the manual is http://service.us.panasonic.com/OPERMANPDF/TCP42ST30.PDF . (You will need Adobe Reader or a similar program available to read the manual.) The English version is the second link in the Owner's Manuals and Documentation section.

I hope this helps.

Lightning Storm messed up one HDMI Input

Fault at its main digital board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts.

In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Most likelly it is your DVR that has a problem. Their are a lot of issues with those DVR's from the cable or satellite companies. I would recomend swapping it out.

Use the component connection not the HDMI. Some of the ATT boxes have issues with the HDMI ports. Uverse is only broadcast in 1080i not p so you will not lose any video quality.

Cc box

Open the menu, then go to setup, there should be a closed caption options in there, also remember that CC can only be passed via a transmitted cable signal. If you have a Cable box or Satellite box connected via HDMI, or its pushing a HD signal (720p, 480p) the CC box is from the Sat or Cable box, test the settings on the box.

Need help hooking up TV, BluRay, Home Theatre & cable box

I found that since the Panasonic TH50PZ80U TV has only 2 HDMI ports on the back of the TV, the best solution for me was to use component (red, blue, green) cables to connect the Home Theatre to the TV. I suppose I/you could connect the home theatre to the HDMI port on the front panel, but I don't want cables hanging out the front of the TV (personal preference). Unfortunately, I am no longer able to use the VIERA Link functionality available by connecting all Panasonic components to each other using HDMI cables, but I feel it's a small price to pay for the incredible picture quality acheived by using the HDMI cable to connect the HD Cable Box to the TV. I may yet be able to control everything using the HD Cable Box remote, but I haven't gotten that far yet but I've got Comcast coming on Saturday and hopefully they can let me know if this is possible: let me know if you have a solution.

So here are the components and the cable types used to connect:
  1. HD Cable Box to TV: HDMI cable & Optical Audio cable
  2. Home Theatre to TV: Red, Blue & Green component cables
  3. BluRay Player to TV: HDMI cable
I hope this helps someone else.
