I totally agree with Art Ellison, just one tip more trying to help you. You can go at this official link from Dell and download all the drivers you need. I suppose that your new op. system (after formatting) is windows XP. This is because officially your laptop is not supported by win7. If this is your case the things are a bit more complicated. Post me back with any news.

When you reformat a hard drive, you lose everything. Then you reload the O/S, but drivers from the manufacturer are not included with Windows.
So--in your case, visit support.dell.com and look for your laptop model by service tag # or my model. That will take you to the page where you can download the drivers you need. Suggestion: Get the ethernet driver first, install it, and then you can go online with that computer to get the rest. That will save you time.

It would mean that there are NO DRIVERS installed for that device. what you need to do is go to the toshiba web site and download the CORRECT drivers for your sound card.

Its not a big problem you just need to ensure you use the correct model when you search Toshiba for drivers in the support area

Audio device is not working in my laptop
Hello,
You have to reinstall the audio driver when you format the OS. that is the reason for your OS not detecting the audio device. You will have your driver;s CD with you which you would have got when you bought the laptop.

Sound problem
Go to your control panel and open it. than click on sound and audio devices. once the window opens it will say either no audio devices found or it will tell you the what the sound card is. If it does not tell you than you will need to download the driver for your sound card again. If you need any further help with this please let me know. I can get you your sound card driver if you can let me know what the make and model number is of the sound card.
