Hello
The vertical sweep section of your TV is faulty. It may be either to a loose solder points at somewhere in that section of to the fault with the vertical output IC. Check all the solder points on the vertical output section of your TV. It is best to resolder most of the suspected soldering points, by applying a little more solder, without making any solder bridge short in between adjecent solder terminals. If this does not help you, replace the vertical output IC with same type and number. OK.

Toshiba 36A50 sound, light line horizonally on black screen

It is my guess that you have some intermitent solder connections in the Vertical output circuit.
Hope this helps,

We have perfect sound but only a thin horizontal line in the middle of the screen.

this is a capacitor that has gone bad in the vertical delfection stage of the tv. it is an very easy and cheap fix if you know someone who knows how to solder and replace electronic components. If not then you'll just have to get another tv as taking it into a tv repair shop is not worth the cost. You could get another tv for what they will charge you to repair it,

Tv not working

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

Horizontal 'pinstripe' lines on all channels

sound like the screen control on the flyback is set just a little too high. the flyback has the red wire attached to the tube. the flyback has 2 small adjustable controls. if you look close enough 1 is marked focus & on is screen. turn the screen slightly to the left & look at your picture. the screen is like a master brightness & if it's up too high you will see what is called retrace lines. good luck.
