Attempted to install service pack 3 but received error message: C:\windows\system32\drivers\acpi\sys.

Hi Michelle,
This problem happens if you run "Alcohol 120%" and "DAEMON Tools" applications. If you don't have these apps installed follow the below step to fix this issue.
  1. Go google "Unlocker Assistance" and download the software (or the link is provided below), it's free and very useful program. This program can unlock or kill or delete any files that's being used, no matter what situation the file is on, it can unlock the file or kill the process which is using it. (The icon looks like a star magic wand, that's the right program)
Download the software below if you have trouble finding it. http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1029-unlocker.html
  2. After you install the program, then go in your My Computer, and right click on the C:\ and click on Search. Then find the keyword "atapi.sys" that the error message mentioned. You will see an icon that looks like a white sheet of paper, right click on that and choose "Unlocker" on the menu. I don't know if this would show up by default, but it should. After that a window should pop up showing you which program is currently using the file, I think it was "System". Now you need to click either on the "Unlock" or "Unlock All".
  3. After that, the "atapi.sys" file should be unlocked. Now, go back to the error message and you should see "Retry" or something like that, then just click on that. Viola, the process will continue on.

Please post your system specs and the full error message.

At what point does the error appear? Is it the same point each time?

Does your computer meet the game's minimum requirements (especially the graphics card)?

Have you installed the latest chipset drivers, graphics driver, DirectX and MS updates?

Have you made any hardware upgrades recently? __________________ roger

There must be some driver you have installed recently. Try booting in safe mode and restore your system to an earlier date.

Shutdown/Startup repair issue

hi dear

The process NDIS 5.1 wrapper driver belongs to the Microsoft Windows Operating System.

Description: File NDIS.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 182912 bytes (94% of all occurrence), 167552 bytes.
The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. The file is a Windows core system file. The program is not visible. It is a Microsoft signed file. The service has no detailed description. Therefore the technical security rating is 0% dangerous.

This is a common problem experienced by many people. Just Google NDIS.sys and you'll see what I mean. For some it is onboard sound such as Realtech, others it is IRQL conflicts, and for still others such as yourself the NIC card.

One person worked around it by uninstalling the Windows driver and downloaded the manufacturer's driver.

If the lancard is built in to the mainboard then you should install the chipset of the motherboard so that all the hardware can be detected.

The dirver is encloased in you computer from the vendor, you should install that at series so that there is no issue encountered, thanks maynthis help.

Graphic driver problem

The Intel 852/855, 865G, and 945G video chipsets are integrated with numerous desktop, laptop, and server motherboards. Older versions of the drivers for these chipsets, often installed at the OEM factory, may conflict with patches or other drivers on each of Windows XP Home, XP Pro, and 2003 Server. Blue-screen-of-death and memory dump errors will result from running old versions of this driver. The text of these messages includes:
  • “DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL”
  • Driver conflict error: “ialmnt5.sys
  • DLL communication error: “ialmdev5.dll”
The error often occurs following Windows Service Pack upgrades, Windows Update installs, and the running of new video games. After the error appears it is usually possible to boot into safe-mode (restart and press F8 at the BIOS screen to start in safe-mode) to install the newest version of the driver. Download and install newest driver version from: http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/

I think your best bet will be to update every driver on your system and to try disabling advanced video features.

Or purchase a separate video card to install in your Windows 2003 server’s PCI or AGP slot and which already has drivers built for Windows 2003. Install that video card in the system and then disable the video Intel video chipset that is on your motherboard. (You can find closeout and refurbished video cards that might work well on sites like eBay or geeks.comno-web-bugs.gif)
