Hi Greg,

This issue can still be fixed. However, the only way to fix this is to bring the machine to Sony Vaio's Authorized Service Center. Reflashing the system's BIOS can only be done inside Windows. But because of the state of your machine reflash is not possible. People from the Service Center need to have physical access to your machine so they can reflash your BIOS and put it back to it's original state. They do have a special tool needed to do the whole process. Kindly call Sony's phone support to check out the nearest available service center in your area. You may contact them at:

Priority Service: 239-768-7669 Toll Free Service: 1-888-476-6972

They are open 24/7.

Hope this helps.

Sony vaio vgn-s2hp did a restore - cannot find operating system message - replaced drive, same message. Bios is corrupted, how can I fix this?

1st-What O\S (win-xp, vista, # 7,etc.) did you "RESTORE" ?
2nd-Why did you mess with the BIOS. ? Did you understand that the BIOS is the INSIDE\PHYSICAL part of the laptop and NOT the Operating System [O\S] Windows_xp, vista, #7 etc.etc.
3rd-That "cannot find operating system" could be something as simple as the BIOS was RESET by something as a 'glinch', electrical short, suddenly turning off ( not that you did it! ) of laptop , lighting while you were working ( ALMOST ALWAYS... when the computer is writing to hard drive [H\D] with laptop
The BIOS could not see the H\D because is was changed by sudden electrical surge.
That you replaced H\D, you will have to REINSTALL the O\S again.Because I will assume that you brought a DIFFERENT type of H\D [ maybe something with more GB?, different model H\D ]

Sony Vaio Model VGN-FS640/W does not show having a battery.

The main battery needs to be replaced, or the charging ciruit on the motherboard is not working, remove main battery get a stiff toothbrush and clean terminals in the laptop incuding the battery, if no change! check the device manager to see if battery is present, if no! reset bios to factory default.

Failed Bios Flash on Sony Vaio Laptop VGN-NR180E : Won't Boot

Try removing the battery, unplug from power and push the power button to clear any static or errant voltage. If this does not work, try inserting the windows disk, or recovery disk and turn on computer. It may boot into the recovery mode. Let it do an automatic recovery. Thirdly, If you can download the bios from sony that belongs in that machine, you can flash the bios back to what version belongs there.

I have a Sony VGN-NR180E laptop, the hard disk had needed changing so i bought a new one. installation went perfect, up on loading up my new os windows7 in my laptop, it shut off due to no power ( was...

I suggest you reinstall the windows 7 again. The installation was interrupted because the battery ran out of power, the result was a corrupted and incomplete installation of windows. And that is the main reason why you are just getting a blank screen.

I have just purchased a new sony battery. my model no. is sony vaio VGN CR510E/L. The laptop doesnt recognize the new battery BPS9 and it says update the bios. i just downloaded the sofware bps9.exe but...

If the battery is not a Sony battery but an equivalent, the Sony may not recognize it as there is not the specified "bit" of information built in to it. It maybe just totally flat in which case it will take a number of hours on charge to get it recognized.
The BIOS upgrade must be done with a good battery fitted and the AC Adapter working otherwise if the power fails whilst loading, you cannot recover the BIOS again.
