Zune won't sync and now some songs will not play all they way through

Hi. I have an original 30GB device. It worked fine until recently. It only sporadically syncs ( I have uninstalled, reinstalled, reformatted the device, and bought a new sync cable) all to no avail. Now it stops playing songs partway through. I played the songs on my pc to make sure it wasn't the file and they were fine. Please help!!

  • krmanf Sep 25, 2008

It was suggested that I get the software update, but I already have the most updated software.

  • krmanf Sep 25, 2008

I have reset it countless times. The of recognizes the device, but it won't sync. What's really strange is that the of moves along in the process but the zine doesn't respond.

What version are you using?

To determine what version of the software is installed on the Zune device, follow these steps: 1. On the Home screen on the Zune device, select settings, and then press the center of the Zune pad. 2. Select about, and then press the center of the Zune pad. 3. Select zune, and then press the center of the Zune pad.
To update your Zune device, follow these steps: 1. Make sure that you have the current version of the Zune software installed on your computer. To do this, follow these steps: • If you are a new Zune customer, visit the following Web site and install the Zune software for your computer: http://www.zune.net/setup (http://www.zune.net/setup) • If you already have an earlier version of the Zune software installed on your computer, update the software. To do this, click Settings, click software, click GENERAL, and then click CHECK FOR UPDATES 2. Connect the Zune device to your computer by using the Zune sync cable. Use a USB port on the back of the computer. Do not use a USB hub.Open the Zune software while the Zune device is still connected to your computer. The Zune software searches the Internet for the latest version of the firmware. If a newer version of the Zune firmware is available than the version that you have installed, a notice to update your device appears. You can also manually check for new device updates by clicking Settings, by clicking device, and then by clicking Device Update.

Unplug your Zune. Hold the back button (the one to the left of the middle button) and up on the middle button together for about 4 seconds. That will reboot the Zune. Plug it in and the computer should recognize it. If it doesn't automatically sync, right click the name of your Zune in the left task pane and uncheck the option that says "Do Not Sync Automatically" Unplug your Zune one more time and plug it back in and it should work.

Try to reset first the unit follow this:
Press back and up at the same time. This should reset the device. You may also need to plug it into a power source. Also make sure the hold switch on the top of your Zune device is set to “off” while you are performing these steps.

IF still the same problem better check for a firmware update for this unit....

Hope that helps................

  • Anonymous Sep 25, 2008

If you already have the latest software you can Flash the firmware of this unit because sometimes you will have this problem because of a corrupted software/firmware of the device....

I had a Zune 30gb and all my music is on my comp with the Zune software. I broke my Zune 30gb and bought a Zune 120gb; but, how do I set this new one up with the software so it can get all my songs?

You will have to re-sync it. You cannot just upload the "image" of your old Zune. You will have to treat is as if you never had a Zune in the first place. You CAN transfer your Zune's name and tags, but you can't have it automatically upload all of the old songs onto it.

Hi guys,
I just got an update from the team that I want to share with you. Great news! It looks like this issue will resolve itself over the next 24 hours. Please read the response below. Thank you all for your extreme patience with this!

Early this morning we were alerted by our customers that there was a widespread issue affecting our 2006 model Zune 30GB devices (a large number of which are still actively being used). The technical team jumped on the problem immediately and isolated the issue: a bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year. The issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009. We expect the internal clock on the Zune 30GB devices will automatically reset tomorrow (noon, GMT). By tomorrow you should allow the battery to fully run out of power before the unit can restart successfully then simply ensure that your device is recharged, then turn it back on. If you’re a Zune Pass subscriber, you may need to sync your device with your PC to refresh the rights to the subscription content you have downloaded to your device.

Customers can continue to stay informed via the support page on zune.net (zune.net/support).

We know this has been a big inconvenience to our customers and we are sorry for that, and want to thank them for their patience.

Q: Why is this issue isolated to the Zune 30 device?
It is a bug in a driver for a part that is only used in the Zune 30 device.

Q: What fixes or patches are you putting in place to resolve this situation?
This situation should remedy itself over the next 24 hours as the time flips to January 1st.

Q: What’s the timeline on a fix?
The issue Zune 30GB customers are experiencing today will self resolve as time changes to January 1.

Q: Why did this occur at precisely 12:01 a.m. on December 31, 2008?
There is a bug in the internal clock driver causing the 30GB device to improperly handle the last day of a leap year.

Q: What is Zune doing to fix this issue?
The issue should resolve itself.

Q: Are you sure that this won’t happen to all 80, 120 or other flash devices?
This issue is related to a part that is only used in Zune 30 devices.

Q: How many 30GB Zune devices are affected? How many Zune 30GB devices were sold?
All 30GB devices are potentially affected.

My Zune 4gb won't sync with my software and will not charge

Hi,

I had a similar problem with my 30GB Zune. The first normal solution is to make sure that the USB port is providing enough power to the Zune to charge it by trying a different port or computer, but since your other Zune charges it is likely not the problem.

Other possibly solutions are performing a hard reset on the Zune (hold back and up until it resets), or allowing the zone to completely discharge and try again. In my case, none of these solutions worked and I was forced to send my Zune in for a new battery, which Microsoft was willing to replace for free.

Error code c00d124d appears on my zune while sync

You may have to attempt a Hard Reset if this issue is persistant.

This will erase everything on your device, as a warning please be certian you have backup copies or this is a last resort.

Here is the original post:
WARNING: A hard reset will delete everything on your Zune.
  1. Press and hold the back button
  2. Press and hold up until it reboots
  3. Depending on which Zune you have, immediately do one of the following:
    1. If you have a Zune 4 GB, Zune 8BG, or Zune 80GB, immediately press and hold the Back button Back at the same time as you press the right side of the Zune pad and the Play/Pause button. Continue to hold these buttons until the Zune device restarts and you receive the following message: “Clearing contents. Please wait.”
    2. If you have a Zune 30GB, immediately press and hold the Back button Back at the same time that you press the right side of the Zune pad and the center of the Zune pad. Continue to hold these buttons until the Zune device restarts and you receive the following message: “Clearing contents. Please wait.”

    Good luck, Let us know

Not able to download songs

well first of all, I suggest that,, convert first the song or video that you have downloaded from other sites, it's file type maybe such as FLV file,, or flash video file,, convert it to WMV, WMA, or MP3 then after converting it, try to drag it to your collections then right click sync, then,, I think that would be the time that it will be saved unto your Zune Device,, Note:,, Zune only supports file types such as WMV, WMA, MP3, and JPG,, SO be sure to convert the file first to any of those supported files so that it will automatically be saved unto your Zune Device,, if you have more questions,, just email me at,, [email protected]
