Sony KDS 50A 2000 rear proj set, 17 months old, green tint over entire

This tv is 17 months old, last week the replace bulb message popped up on the screen after about one weeks of excessive green tint on all channels which cannot be adjusted out including a complete reset of the picture qualities. Under a private warranty, circuit city sent out a man who put in a new projector bulb, and reset the replace bulb message. Result: No change in the picture, still a very pronounced green tint on everything over the entire screen. Serviceman says now this may require a new light engine, also known as optical block which I gather runs over $1,000. This is my third Sony tv, I have had two CRTs and now this projector model SXRD and every one of them has gone down the tubes within 2 years of purchase. Time to give up on Sony who at one time had a great reputation. I see they have quit making this particular set and there is a class action suit against sony for a similar model with similar problems.

SOURCE: Sony SXRD KDS-50A2000 Will not power on. Green

I have the same problem with my unit. I've been removing the bulb and just replace it back and unit will work again. I probably need to vacuum or check the fan out too.

Green tint on sony kds-r5xbr1 rear projection tv. picture in hd is still great looking just green.

What media device are you using and how is it connected?
If its an external device (that is your not using a built in blu ray player or such) and your using compost video (it should be three wires for video, blue, green, and red) check the red wire on both ends. Most of the time this is the problem.
If your using a HDMI cable, or the above does not fix the problem, try replacing the cable.

If its only a slight tinting there should be a setting on your tv for fixing it. (Usualy named Tint)

60in Sony KDS-60A2020 LCD rear projection picture goes on and off

yes replace the lamp, sony units have certain specs that the lamp must meet to operate correctly. If the Lamp you purchased is made by LTI, these lamps do not last long as they are poorly manufactured. Look at the bulb and see who is the maker if its says LTI then replace with a Phillips brand that meets spec's for sony.

Green tint on entire screen of Sony KDS-55A2020.

When I was reading the instructions for this tv, It was saying if the projection bulb is reaching the end of its life you will get strange color changes. You can also reset your settings in the setting section. Go to your menu and go to settings and them picture. You can reset your picture to factory settings in this menu. Now you can reset in different modes also. You have to be in these modes to set factory settings. These are Vivid, Standard and Custom. Take a look. You can go to sony and it tells you haw to do all of this. You punch in your TV type and you can go into the instructions. I learned how to change my projection lamp.

We are noticing a green tint on our Sony KDS-R50XBR1

You have what is referred to as the "Green Blob". Sony messed up bad with the Optical Light Engine. They didnt realize until months after releasing the model you and I have they had a huge problem. So they figured not all Engines were bad. So technically, they havent recalled. I went through several months of talking with Sony and my warranty. You will need to call a tech and have them check to make sure. My tech knew what it was by me telling him over the phone. Hes worked on a more than he cared to say. Sony will play games. They will want a considerable deposit put down before sending the new Engine. And if thats not the problem...they keep your money!!!AAAAHHHHH!!!!I feel for you. I pray you have better service than me. Its been a year since. so maybe they are better. God Bless!!

The green is taking over all the color on the tv

I have the same TV which had the same issue ( green in picture ) - back on 10/2007. I called Sony. They had their technician replace the optical box ( factory defect ). There was no charge for the repair even though TV was out of first year of warranty. Call Sony.

Sony KDS-50A2000 screen is in green tint

My Sony KDS 50 A2000 is 17 months old. Its the 50 Inch SXRD projection model. About two weeks ago the screen developed a green tint with cannot be tuned out, then a few days later the message began to appear on the screen that the bulb was nearing the end of its life and must be replaced.
Fortunately I have the Circuit City extended warranty.
I called and within just a few days a serviceman came out and replaced the projection bulb.
The Result: No change in the picture, the green tint remains on all channels, so I'm awating the next service call. Under the service warranty they have the option to repair or replace this set. If indeed this is the light engine (optical block) which I suspect and its going to cost $1,000 or more I may be looking at a new set.
When it works this is a great TV, but I have had three Sonys now including two other standard CRT models and now this one joins them in the junk heap, the other two also bit the dust after just about two years. Is it time to give up on Sony?
I know they have a class action suit on a similar model for this same problem. Caveat emptor
