I recently bought a toshiba 40E210 lcd i just would like to ask if there is an additional audio output aside from the digital optical audio output?

Many TVs have to have the optical output enabled in a set-up menu. Do you see red when the connector is disconnected (which doesn't necessarily mean that it is active, just that it is 'ON').

Have you checked the amplifier to insure that the input is working by connecting something else directly up to it? Can you test the TOSLINK converter by plugging the output into something else to determine where the problem lies. I still suspect it is in the menus of the TV.

Get a hdmi switch

I have a Acer AX1700 desktop. I recently reinstalled Windows XP home edition and trying to connect the computer to my Dennon audio receiver through the optical digital cable. It doesn't appear to be going through but I am able to get other audio (dvd playter) to output through the same connection on my Dennon. Is there a driver or software I require to push the audio out of the optical digital output? Please let me know. ... - posted in PC Laptops

I have the same system. I have a Lifestyle and a Sony TV with a Samsung Blueray player. I also have an X-box 360, plus my pc with all my CDs (I-tunes) plays through my bose. Do this:

1. Use the optical cable for the blueray player to the Bose (AUX).
2. Use a digital audio cable from the cable box (either black or orange output) to the Bose CBL-SAT digital input. (it's a single audio cable)
3. For my PC, I'm using a digital cable from the pc to the Bose. I'm using the TV output because it's empty.
4. For my x-box (which I'm not too happy about) I'm using regular red-white audio cables from Bose TV input directly to the TV audio out. (You can play all of the above through this channel, but don't).

I figured the most important high quality sound should come from the blueray player and from watching regular cable tv. For picture, you should be using all HDMI connections.

Check the audio settings in the blue ray audio menu.

Depending on the year of your model of VIZIO your digital optical output may be tied to the DTV input only. Meaning the only time you will have audio coming out of the digital optical output is when your using the tuner and your on a digital channel. If your television is newer and the digital optical output is in white on the back of the television than it is tied to HDMI and the DTV Tuner and you will pass audio through the digital optical output when using HDMI or the Digital Tuner.

Now to get connect the HT: Normally you would run a digital optical cable from the source device to the home theatre system. Meaning if it was a PS3 you would run a optical cable from the Digital Out on the back of the PS3 to the Digital In on the Home Theatre receiver. If it was a DVD player than you would run the optical cable from the DVD player to the HT receiver. If you have a newer VIZIO and the optical output is in white and not black than you can run HDMI from the PS3 to the VIZIO and then run a optical cable from the VIZIO to the Home theater receiver.

You will have to adjust the audio setting in the PS3 to run audio out of the HDMI port if it is set to run audio out of the Digital Out or AV out. Also, if your going to run audio from the PS3 to the HT receiver through the Digital Out then you need to change the audio setting in the PS3 to Digital Out.

1. Select (Sound Settings) under (Settings) in the home menu.
2. Select [Audio Output Settings].
3. Select the input connector on the audio device.

Channel numbers and audio formats that are supported vary depending on the connector in use. AV is 2 ch. only, Digital Out is 2 ch. & 5.1 ch, and HDMI is upto 7.1.

Try running the optical TOSLINK cable from the TV to the receiver. If the TV doen't have a digital optical output, then try going into the menu on your cable box and setting the audio output to the digital optical out. Also check your TV menu and make sure NETCOMMAND is diabled. Some of your newer HDTV have Netcommand that allows the TV to control other devices through the HDMI cable.
