I got a problem with my decks, One deck, when i put the needle on it, the needle would play a bit then just slide across the record a bit then play a bit or if it did not do that it would keep on jumping. To make matters worse i played on it last night and the first hour it was ok then it started doing this on most of the records but on some it was alright and played the record and to make matters more confusing, now i have set both up at home, i cannot remember which one it was, but i just played a couple of records on both and everything is ok. Could this be the problem, when i set them up and was fiddling with the base of the arm that connects with the deck, and at the bottom you have a big lockable round dial sort of thing with markings on. On one deck the locking switch, when you move it, opens at one end and locks at the other end, 90 degrees, and when it is open i can move the big dial round. On the other deck the lockable switch only moves 45 degrees and the dial under it does not move at all, its stuck, like its glued in position.

    When was the last time you replaced our stylus? Natural wear and tear will cause such actions to take place.

SOURCE: Technics 1210 MK11 - 'Click' in tone arm movement

Your tonearm is damaged at the pivoting screw. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to fix this other than replacing your tonearm. The pivoting screw is a cone shape screw - aka conical screw - and this sits on 4 ball bearings, with a very thin piece of sheet metal which keeps the ball bearings in place. If this thin piece of metal is damaged - more than likely indented - it causes this sort of clicking sound you speak of. You will need to have the tonearm replaced, as this cannot be fixed. Or, shall I say, it will cost you more to try and fix the problem than it will to just replace the tonearm:

FIX = 3-6hrs @ $85/hr
or
REPLACE = 1hr @ $85 + $70 (tonearm)

You do the math.

Technics Tonearm can be purchased here, but this is not an easy replacement, and you could do more damage if you are not sure of what your doing. Professional repair is recommended. You can buy the part, then bring it to the service shop.

SOURCE: muffled sound

HELLO!
I don't think the problem is the actual stylus (needle), it sounds like the magnetic cartridge has become faulty in some way (it does happen). My advice is try another cartridge and stylus (borrow if you can). If the audio stays the same then it MAY be the wiring in the arm going through the plinth (deck) and these wires terminate to pins or a small pcb board in the turntable where the phono cables and arm wires are connected. There may be a bad connection inside.
Also, make sure your tonearm counterweight and anti-skate are set up properly as well as this can have an effect on audio.
I hope this helps as I have been into audio since I was a kid!

SOURCE: Sears Tape deck/Turn table skipping!

Hi the pennies will mess up the stylus. There should be an anti skate setting at the back of the turn table, a round adjustable bit with numbers, increase the anti skate and then use the balance weigth (weight right at the back of the arm that turns to get the weight right. Set the anti skate with the tone arm light, then increase the weight a bit. Hope that helps

How do you dub cassette to cassette

Hi
If you have a dual cassette deck, then one deck will only play cassettes,whilst the other will have a record facility as well.
Basically you need to place the original cassette in the play only deck and the target cassette in the record/play deck.
Start the playback in the play only deck and immediately press the record and play buttons together on the record deck. Some decks have high speed dubbing but this varies so much that you will need to consult your manual for this.

How do I dub using the onyx double cassette deck?

There should be a button or switch that will select the recording deck and the dubbing deck. You put a blank tape into the recording deck and the pre-recorded one into the play deck. Pressing the record button on the dubbing deck, on some models should start the play deck running. If not press play on that deck.

Need to find user manual. I have a problem in recording a tape. I put in deck1 --- cassette to be recorded in deck2 new cassette start play on deck1 ... turn on record and play in deck2 as...

for a start your title says "Problem with the Technics RS-TR272 Single Cassette Deck"
So is it a single or double?
i'm assuming it's a double,right only one of the decks records so put the blank tape into it make sure the tabs on the top of the tape haven't been broke or you'll need to cover the holes with the labels you get with the tape.
put the tape with the music on it, in the other deck rewind them both then press "sync rec" & they should both set off.

Examine the cantilever very carefully - you sure that the stylus is there? Not uncommon for the lever to be perfecto but the stylus is gone. So when you go to play a record the arm slides all over the place!

The crossfader won't gradually fade from deck to deck.

In the front of the IDJ2 system there should be a switch labeled "CF Slope." Switch it downward and you should be good.

How do I dub casette to casette? I lost the manual.

There should be a DUB button. After you push the DUB button, you will have another button that will allow you to select Dub form 1-2 or 2-1. If not there will only be one deck that will play while the other records and plays. Put the tape to be coppied in the play deck and the blank tape in the record deck push record and it should work.

Some dual decks use a common drive belt. It may have become too slack (due to age) to drive mechanism. I am sure its time to change all belts in both decks. This will solve the problem
