Ping is used to check for a network path to a specific host. In this case the script will ping from domain.com to the host you provide. Ping should be the first TCP/IP diagnostic tool you use when tracking down a network problem. Ping uses a series of Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP, often-pronounced eye-comp) messages, that produces an Echo message to which every host responds. When Ping uses the ICMP messages and replies, it can determine whether the other system is alive, and also compute the round-trip delay in communicating with that system. So Ping can show you how fast the connection is between two ip addresses or domains.

Operating system: Windows XP Home Edition Model: Acer One Aspire Problem: PC sees wireless networks & connects but Internet Explorer &/or Mozilla don't get me on the internet.

please ping your router gateway, for seeing default gateway you take command prompt and type ipconfig, there you can see your default gateway then type ping gatewayip (eg: ping 192.168.0.1) if you are getting reply from that gateway your computer communicating with your router. If you are getting request timedout then there is a problen in communication. If you are getting the reply then you just ping google (ping www.google.com).getting reply the connection to the internet is fine.If not there is problen in internet connection in the router.

My laptop will not connect to our wireless router at work. It says connected, but no internet access.

The laptop might be connected to your wireless router but is unable to connect to the internet

check if you can ping websites
- click on start > Run > type in "cmd" > in the command prompt type in "ping www.yahoo.com"
- if you get 4 replies the problem might be with your browser.
- if Ping fails try typing "ping 209.191.122.70" which is the IP address for www.yahoo.com
- if ping is successful then the issue is with your DNS server. contact your ISP to get alternate DNS
- if Ping fails try pinging the default gateway or modem IP (you can find the default gateway by typing IPCONFIG)
- if ping is successful then there is a problem with your internet provider

Also you should try disabling your firewall and runnning a virus/malware scan

I purchase a netgear universal wireless internet adapter to connect on my samsung tv to get the internet , netflik etc.....i was not able to pass the test with the gateway ping which failed. the model...

I have a couple of questions

1. What gateway are you pinging?
2. From what device are you sending the ping?

If you are trying to ping the gateway on the modem/router provided by your internet service provider then you will not get a ping response, this is because it's configured not to respond.

Hello. I have a unique problem. I have a Windows Vista home premium system that can ping to my gateway and other systems on the local network but can not ping beyond my gateway and can not browse the...

If you can PING your gateway, then there was no need for the 'WINSOCK FIX'.

Access the web-server "inside" the router, and look at the table of DHCP clients -- confirm that your computer's "wired" and "wireless" connections are listed, and that they have been assigned IP-addresses.

The router should have its own 'PING' interface, so try PING-ing to 'ns.watson.ibm.com' -- you should get output like:

Pinging ns.watson.ibm.com [129.34.20.80] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=126ms TTL=241
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=103ms TTL=241
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=91ms TTL=241
Reply from 129.34.20.80: bytes=32 time=93ms TTL=241

if your router has an Internet connection.

I have the Samsung BD 3600 and the Belkin N router and fail the gateway ping. Help

if you are trying to ping the router from the outside internet, the ping function is probably shut off. If you are trying to ping the router from a local pc either the pc is not connected to the router network or the router network is not the same as the pc network (example: router gateway ip is 192.168.55.1 and your pc is looking for 192.168.1.1. Check the router gateway id. If you can get to the router, you are probably ok.

Send more info if you can't resolve the issue.

I have a new reformat pc from hp compaq d530. We I can't connect to the internet may be because there is no local area connection. What should I do?

first make sure that you have installed your lan driver and ethernet cable is connected from both end and there is power in your router. Now at command prompt type ipconfig and look for your ip address assinged manually or automatic.....

If you see any ip address try to ping the ip itself and then try to ping gateway..

at command prompt type
ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -t (your ip add)

similarly ping the gateway

if you get reply from ip and gateway then it should work.......do reply

Cannot "ping" 192.168.1.1 (default gateway)

1) yes, referring to the router's IP address.

2) I determined the IP addresses of all my computers and tried to "ping" them but could not "ping" any of them. I can "ping" the IP address of the computer I am working from but I don't think that helps in TS this situation.

3) I'm wondering if my router is fully set up correctly. Do each of the computers have to be "saved" in the router's settings?
