Green light on back of hewit packard goes dim whenever the power button is pushed and the computer will not power up or show any signs of life. I did a voltage test with a voltmeter and all voltages seemed fine when shorting pins 15 an 16 on motherboard connection

Computer wont start, no signs of life, power supply is good and green light turs off when plugging into computer

Hi there
Sounds like a common problem
when you plug the power pack into the laptop its power light goes off because there is a fault. Most commonly this is connected with the plug or the socket into which it goes or the motherboard.
visually inspect the socket, if the central pin is loose thats your problem, if not then check the plug/jack bend the cable on it as these are prone to breaking. wiggle it around whilst checking the power button and status lights if none of that works then you need to strip the laptop and perform a continuity test on the first stage.
ie between socket and motherboard. please note for any sign of exposed cable and remember electricity hurts on contact be carefull. especially if you test motherboard for voltage.
ps the switch is pretty reliable and i would not poke anything in that hole just yet.

Ilo LCT32HA36 won't show a picture but does have power

Hi, I had a computer monitor that acted similar one time and what I found were that there were some bad capacitors in the power supply board inside. They were identified by the swelled up rounded ends and the heat discoloration of them. They look like little aluminum cans with a vinyl sleeve shrunk around them with the component values written on them. A normal one is flat on the end with no signs of any leakage around them of a brownish blackish substance similar to wax or tar. They are relatively inexpensive at an electronics supply store($1-2 each) so I replaced them all. This will require some soldering and electronic repair knowledge though. The power supply could not stabilize so it just kept shutting down the picture that only displayed for a brief instant.
Good Luck!

AOC lm720 no screen plus blinking green light

Sorry to say, but it sounds like you power board is due for an overhaul.
It should be fixable since it does show signs of a little life left in it.
It would have to be taken apart. A visual may tell for sure.
Look for bulging capacitors (canister looking things) This a sign of a typical failure.
Of course, not all capacitors bulge when they go bad. That would make things too simple !!

My computer won't start! It was shut down by the start menu and when I went back to it about an hour later, I push the button in to power the computer on and nothing is happening. Yes, it is plugged in...

Unplug it and hold the power button in for up to 60 seconds to discharge.

Is there an I/O button in the back of the computer? Make sure it is set to I.
