Auto feed spool doesn't work

My GrassHog GH600 14" auto feed trimmer/edger stopped automatically feeding the string from the spool recently, forcing me to open the spool cover and pull out the string manually. Is there someway to fix or lubricate to get the auto feed operation working again?

You may need to purchase a new spool housing, which may not be too hard to do, if you have one of the name brand trimmers. This replaces the whole mechanism that holds the line, the retaining ring, etc.

When I had this problem I replaced that ratchet toggle part that the string drum sits over. Do you use replacement refills or do you refill them yourself. If you wind the string in the wrong direction it all affect the auto feed.

Line doesn,t feed automaticly

Hi there,

The line may be on backwards or has developed a knot. Debris may have worked its way inside the bump head preventing it from functioning.

Check out these items.

Best regards

I properly replaced the line spool but it won't feed automatically.

After you replaced your string in the trimmer and fed it through the hole in the plastic casing in which the spool fits into, did you pull the string until you hear a click? The click locks the string in, then you can bump and feed as usual. Otherwise it won't feed normally.

String on weed wacker does not automatically advance.

the notice on the trimmer says it has an AFS Automatic Feed Spool, "NO BUMPING REQUIRED". I see that underneath the spool, there's a small plastic centrifugal weightwith a peg on it. . It kinda looks like it might advance the line each time the electric motor starts and stops. If there are loose clippings in there, or if the weight is stuck, it probably would cause the problem.

B & D auto feed string trimmer won't advance string

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.

Black and Decker Grasshog auto line feeder just spits line out non-stop. Tried lots of things but nothing seems to work.

I'm gonna take a guess and say you re-spooled the line yourself. If you did you may have put too much line on the spool. The max. is 30', but I've found that that can cause jamming, which forces out more line, if not done perfectly. Reduce the amount of line by about 5 feet and you should be OK.

My Balck&Decker Grasshog won't automatically feed line.

Just replace the LEVER, Item #29, Part #598435-00, for about $3.00 (B&D, Dewalt). Just pull old level straight out (pliers) and push replacement in. Level end expands to hold it in place. No other parts. Forget cleaning and replacement the spool, graphite or oiling... just replace the lever.
