When a Dewalt charger is showing a fast blinking red light it means the battery is no longer chargeable. It may be because of a bad cell or short inside the battery. Whatever the reason the charger will not charge the battery and it needs to be replaced.
Sometimes it can be that the battery is too Hot/Warm. If you're in a rush chuck it in the freezer for 5 minutes and it may charge.
If you had two bad ones...maybe you can find the bad cell and replace it..Ive done this alot with old Nicads...Its alittle work and you need a # 10 torx, with a hole in the end of the torx, called a secure torx,
This is not always the case as I have 2 110 chargers and this only happens with the 1 charger

IF an other then N-cd battery like an Dewalt 18 volt li-ion battery is not recognized on the Dewalt charger take a battery charger for a car enough and safe to handle 12 volt 4 amp and connect + to + and - to - for at least a half minute only to load up the deep discharge protection to the minimum voltage inside the power assembly of the battery the Dewalt charger can if a half minute is not enough try repeat it for 20 seconds , after this place the dewalt battery in the Dewalt charger, and in most case be wondering it worked and , i do this by the Dewalt 18v 2A li ion insert-batteries with in the middle a flat pin between the + and - contacts. in most cases it should working. May be your battery seen batter days and very near to end of its life or you are not using and charging your battery on regular basis eg two three times in month, these newer li-ion batteries have memory chip fitted inside if the battery is not in use and left without charge for some time this micro chip drain the power from one battery cell to keep its self alive and the charging data, if you check your battery volt with volt meter if its read bellow 14v its means you need new battery and if the meter reads over 15v then maybe one or two cells drained completely, the battery can be charged and working again if you can charge with high amp power battery charger
Thats correct the Dewalt Li-Ion is one of the brands they are rare about li ion where the batteries can be boosting by a battery charger whitch are used for a car because the most other brandscan only be boosted by special CADEX chargers to boost because of the complex deep discharge protection circuit.

This will sound like a dumb question, I'm sure. Is it not OK to leave today's batteries on the charger? I mean my DeWalt drill came with 2 batteries. One to use and one left in the charger, ready to go? Second part of my question is, out of convenience, I keep all my tools and chargers in my garage. I live in Florida so of course, the garage gets hot. Again with today's batteries should cordless tools be kept indoors? Is the heat bad for them?

When Li-Ion batteries are discharged to a too low voltage (below 2,75 V/cell, in this case 13,75V) the charger will assume that the battery is damaged, and will not charge the battery. First measure the battery voltage with a volt meter, if the voltage is significally below the 13 V the battery are no good. If you have a reading of lets say around 10 V, you can raise the voltage shortly on the battery, by jumping it with a fully charged battery. Connect the "-" poles on each battery. After this, shortly connect the "+" poles, for no more than 5 seconds,disconnect the wires and immediatly put the battery in question in the charger. If it starts charging, every thing if fine. If not, try the process again, you might wanna recheck the voltage if it rises.
Please be aware, that over discharging Li-Ion batteries, will lead to damage of the Li-Ion cells, which results in loss in capacity, therefore, if you are not to use your Li-Ion tools for a while, make sure the batteries are fully charged.

Lithium-Ion batteries require careful charging and temperature monitoring while in the charger. Ryobi's Charging station monitors many functions and shuts off when the battery has gone through a complete charge. This is indicated by a steady Green light. Once the Charge indicator is a steady green the charger stops charging. With any battery It will slowly discharge and I don’t think the Ryobi will maintain a battery that is never removed. For example, if after a complete charge cycle if the battery was left there for 2 years and then you went to use it, it would likely be completely discharged. However if the battery charger is unplugged then plugged back in a new charge sequence would start. I lose power at my house about every 6 months or so. Once power is restored a new cycle would start and the charging cycle begins again.

You are the thrid person in the last couple of days with this same problem and i check who was posting the problems all differant people all RYOBI 18V lithium-ion batterys and they all got them for christmas. SOMETHING is not right there is now warranty on the batterys but there is one on faulty workmenship there must be a problem with this type of battery good luck
