If the breaker has tripped the test button won't do anything ,, for the breaker to trip something down stream of it is causing this to happen,, check all the switches and or receptacles in the circuit that are controlled by this breaker, 3 types of line problems cause tripping,, ground to line, Line to line, and line to neutral. in this ,, also consider that extension cords, faulty appliances , ( lamps, radios, anything plugged in with a feedback short ) will cause the breaker to trip. even a nail to hang a picture that pierced the wire can cause this, add to that , a AFCI breaker will trip much more easily than one thats not, or even a GFI breaker, , try this, if you have the knowledge to do electrical work in a panel, if not get someone who is, switch the tripping breaker with another one of the same value, ( in this case 15 amp) see if the one you put in place of the one thats giving you problems trips. If it doesn't, you have a weak or bad breaker, so just replace that one, if it does, your going to have to trace out that entire circuit to find the reason for the feed back into the panel

Bought a Eaton Cutler Hammer Arc Fault 15 amp Single Pole circuit breaker for my old CH20 model Cutler Hammer CB Box (vintage about mid 1960s). CB package says "Use in Type CH" boxes. It...

I used to run into that being a service electrician all the time Smains! These problems can involve a little more legwork to figure out than some. The best advice that I can give you is, if at that age you can still find a part number on the breaker panel (they renamed them load centers to sound fancy lmao), if you can actually fine a legible one. Write it down and go to Eaton's website, then to load center. They have a parts number search that should take you right to your PANEL lol, and all the specs. I'm not there or if do it for you, hope this helps!!!

Can a Cutler Hammer 2 pole 100 amp CH series circuit breaker be connected to 2/0 aluminium wire in a branch feeder circuit?

I answer questions for free

Looking up your breaker at Eaton, I found the chart that shows below:
Other than the chart, I do not know the specifics of your breaker.
You can add a comment, and I can help you with your wiring project.
Another good source of information about specifics are your local Graybar electric supply house, or any local supplier that specializes in electric wiring.
Having a local electrician stop by and look at your project for a fee might be a good investment long term because that person knows local codes and restrictions.

Cutler Hammer 20 Arc Fault breaker for bedroom outlets will not reset after activating test switch.

The circuit breaker must be turned to the "off" position first from the middle position, and then to the "on" position. The cutler hammer arc breakers carry a lifetime warranty so if it will not reset you may want to contact the manufacture.

Our circuit breakers keep tripping. The house is only 12 months old and our electrician says the builder installed Cutler Hammer Combination type AFCI is the problem. Is there a problem with these being...

They can be defective, but usually not. It is usually something that is plugged in that will not operate on the arc fault circuit. Brush type motors are bad as they are actually arcing at times. Unplug all devices, and try to find the culprit. These are for your safety, and once you find the problem devices you should be fine.

How to reset Cutler Hammer 1 pole 15 Amp

Turn handle to off position and then back on. Same as any other breaker. The red test button can be pressed which will trip breaker. If it trips immediately, unplug all devices on circuit and try to reset. Reconnect each device and see which trips breaker. If this goes to outdoor receptacle, check behind cover for moisture.

Can i use murray in a cutler hammer

You should only use a breaker that is listed for use with your panel. Use of a breaker that is not either listed or classified for use in the panel is a code violation. Check the breaker to see if it will fit your panel (probably not) Murry is now Siemens I believe, and Cuttler Hammer is Eaton. There was a Murry-Cuttler Hammer-Challenger connection for awhile, but just because it fits doesn't mean it's ok.

20 AMP Cutler Hammer CH GFI wont fit in the breaker box

It will fit, the extra bump out on the back makes it a bit harder to hook the back locking tab before you push it on the bussing. Also, make sure no wires are in the way obstructing the bump out since it hangs out further than the standard breakers. The most common problem is the bump out making it hard to hook the locking tab onto the outer rail. Make sure the breaker is in the off position, then try holding it more flat as you insert it keeping it close to the bussing. This will help keep the extra bump out from obstructing the locking tab from hooking the back rail. Once it's hooked on the back rail you can push it on the bussing like normal.

The arc fault breaker must be made for the panel. Use of a breaker (any type of breaker) that is not either listed or classified for use in the panel is a code violation. Yes there are some differences between manufacturers. Compare specs. Make sure you installed the new breakers correctly, or they won't work at all anyway. Just because a breaker fits doesn't mean it's the right one for the panel.
