If you encounter "Error Code 5B00" it means that the Printer Counter Protection is Full and it required a reset and Ink absorber replacement, if you want your printer to work again. There are two ways to reset the Canon MP printer, One is by using a Software tool and the other is manually resetting the EEPROM of the printer. Below is the step by step procedure on how to reset your Canon printer.

1. Using MPtool Software to reset Canon MP Printer
Turn of printer then run mptool software this software automatically detect the printer.
Click reset main and reset platen button in the waste ink counter section.
If you want to reset the cartridge ink level, click reset black and reset color in the ink counter section.

2. Manual Reset of the printer
Turn off the Printers.
Press and Hold the button Resume/Cancel then press POWER button.
Release the Resume/Cancel button while keeping POWER button on press.
Press Resume/Cancel 2 times and then release all the buttons.
When the indicator recorded GREEN - click Resume/Cancel 4 times!
Turn off and On the Canon Pixma MP Printers. And your done.

This works on the F30, F60, and F80.

By pressing Menu-Copy-#
2) Select TEST MODE.
3) Select [8] PRINTER TEST in TEST MODE.
4) Select 3. [EEPROM CLEAR].
5) Select 0. [INK COUNT].
6) Press the [OK] key.
7) Press the [Stop/Reset] key (returning to the state of 3)), and then press the [ON/OFF] key.

Skip step (6) since there is no [OK] key on F30 printers.

Hi. if your multipass is connected to a computer you can check in the printer monitor status the exact error . Or you can count how many time the error display blinks

I had the same message "check printer. press resume key". I cleaned the encoder strip and reset the waste ink volume counter like 6 times and it helped. To reset the waste ink volume counter, follow the steps below. (These steps were originally posted by NerdRUs.):

it seems you open or unscrew the printer.
this may happen if the mother board has no nigative pole.
you have to reset the mother borad.
cannot do that from the available options
the reseting procedure is to take the motherboard out and you have to shortcut the battary for 10 seconds.
re install it , and try it

i cannot print alarm light is on window reads "waste ink near full"

This message is inbuilt into most Canon printers, there is spongy thing in the printer which when fills up fires the message (it's mostly a counter in the printer, which can be reset more later...), per Canon this can only be dealt with in a lab but some of the more adventurous have tried cleaning it by themselves. Note that in a lab they won't clean it, it's a part that needs replacing and it might cost around $60. In most Canon printers there is a reset procedure that can reset the error and allow you to print some more before handling it again. Following are the reset procedures for some of the Printers: (not that F60 isn't listed here) Canon GENERIC "S" SERIES RESET CODE Waste Ink Counter Reset. (1) Turn off the printer. (2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button. (3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession.
