Replacing the SD card slot door cover Nikon D60? The SD card slot cover/ door is broken. Can I replace it myself? Where can I buy the part? Could someone give me step by step instructions on how to replace it? Or if I can't how much do you think it will cost to get fixed?

Hi Sasha - New Nikon repair parts are not available in the marketplace. You'll find repair parts that are offered for sale are used. The used products may be very good - and in some cases practically new - but you'll never know for sure. A battery door and other non-electronic parts should be pretty easy to determine if they have been abused or damaged upon arrival. Electronic parts are going to be a crapshoot.

I was quoted $270 to replace a sensor in my old D70 last year. I found one on eBay for $55. I have no idea how many times the sensor was used, but fortunately it seems to work fine. The work to replace it was tedious and required a very steady hand and some small specialty tools. Replacing the battery door will probably be nowhere near as involved - but I don't know your level of ability, either. You should ask anyone that is selling this part for written instructions or a link to instructions or video that details the replacement process. Read or watch the directions and determine if it is in your skill set. If not, you'll never go wrong sending the camera to Nikon for repair. It will only cost you a bit more - but it will be done right and your camera will not incur additional damage during dis-assembly and reassembly.

I hope this helped and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thanks.

Ideal that you contact Nikon service as the cost of the part from Nikon will include the replaccement charges and is best to get this done professionally.

I have a Nikon D60 that will take photos and works fine with the exception of uploading pictures. When i plug it in the light on the camera blinks speedily and my computer wont recognize the camera.

The camera has to be turned on and in the review mode. You can also try using just the SD card. If your computer doesn't have a slot for the card, you can buy a card reader (sort of an adapter) that will hold the card and plug into a USB port for less than twenty dollars.

If not it has a 1 year warranty, return to them with the exact error message (even if the problem is just intermittant) and they can usually find and fix the problem if the above things do not do the trick. I have had the D60 for over 1 year with no problems....I cannot not re-insert the 4GB chip. After pressing it into the slot it springs back.

SD card have a small notch near the beveled edge. This I believe is the part of the stick that will accept the latch. Look inside the empty card slot. In the Card slot see if there is something binding this latch. Paper stone tree bark etc... If there is see if you can dislodge it catefully.Take a can of old fashion tuner cleaner/lub spray solvent NOT CARB CLEANER. Radio Shack will know. With a can of compressed air to clean a keyboad. Give it a spritz or two...See if what ever is lodged moves out or if the solvent lub helps. If that does not work it needs to be inspected closer to see if the latch is broken or a screw inside is loose...Not the one behind the viewer lense either...

Check your SD card, there may be a piece of it missing. Did the same to my camera and looking into the card holder, there was a piece of SD card lying at th bottom! (I used a needle to dislodge it!)
