Oven temperature is offf by 30 degrees - Maytag Ovens

Generally the oven temperature will fluctuate as much as 30 degrees above or below the set temperature. The longer the oven is on, the less the temperature fluctuates. If you measure the highest and lowest temperatures readings with a thermometer after the oven has been preheated at least 20 minutes, you should come up with an average temperature somewhere within about 10 degrees of the set temperature. You can calibrate most ovens up to 35 degrees higher or lower if it is off. Any more than that requires replacing parts.

Hello Cynthia, contact a professional that your manufacturer suggests. Sounds like the mechanical thermostat, oven sensor or EOC needs to be diagnosed for replacement.

The thermostat is the cause of the problem, normally the the only cure is to replace the oven thermostat,completely, or alternatively, compensate by setting a lower temperature when cooking.
this will work o/k if it is always the same variation in temperature across the range .

It will be the sensor inside the oven compartment that is causing the problem.
A new sensor should cure the prob, certainley cheaoer than buying a new oven.

When the item takes far too long to finish, you probably have a weak bake igniter. Often, you need to replace the igniter, but you may want to troubleshoot the oven's electrical system further to more precisely locate the defect.

When the temperature is consistent but too high or too low, the oven thermostat or sensor is either mis-calibrated or defective. If your oven uses an electronic temperature-regulating device, you may have an electric sensor in the oven instead of a mechanical thermostat. If the oven temperature is off by 30 to 40 degrees in this type of unit, you must replace the sensor.

On many units with a mechanical thermostat, you can remove the thermostat knob and adjust the knob itself to more accurately represent the actual setting of the thermostat. If, when you remove the knob, there's a screw on the back of it with a small calibration plate, you can loosen the screw, adjust the plate, then tighten the screw again. If the knob isn't adjustable, and the oven temperature is off by more than 30 to 40 degrees, you need to replace the thermostat to solve the problem.

meter the electric-220 metering the positives...110 metering 1 positive & ground at a time...Ohm the element if shows open(10 dollar multimeter doesn't move) then is bad.Can be reached from the back just above where the power attaches,for safety disconect the power
