In the 24v system one battery has a negative ground and the other has a positive ground. If either battery is installed backwards everything will work (lights etc.) but the starter will not work. It is also possible to accidentally charge one of the batteries backwards if a battery charger is hook up wrong, which has the same effect as installing a battery backwards.

93 Ford F150 diagram from battery to relay to seliniod to starer

There is a common issue with this year and I have run into it maybe 100 times, The ignition starter switch (located near the bottom top of the steering column) is defective, the switch halves come apart and this causes a no start. Hook a test light up to the fender solenoid, when the key is held in start position the little wire (solenoid signal wire) should light a 12 volt test light, if not you are not getting any power from the ignition starter switch. The switch is very cheap and easy to replace.

I have a 1996 chevy truck and with the key off my lights are on and my back light is on and when i try to start it there is nothing?

Is the lights being on draining the battery, if not then you have two problems, first check the lights, unplug connector from headlight switch and see if that turns lights off, if so then replace the headlight switch, next is the starting if battery is fully charged and nothing happens when key is turned then i would start by checking the starter, with a test light have someone hold the key in the start postion while you test starter, the back of the starter seliniod you will see two connections, one is a big connection with a battery cable going to it, that cable should have power at all times then theres a small connection next ti the big one with a small wire, thats the trigger wire that should have power when key is in the start postion, if theres power to both then replace the starter and thats the starting problem. good day.

I have a 3010 John Deere +24 volt pos ground how do I change from 24 volt gererator to a 24 volt altenator

The 3010 24v JD system is not a true 24v system. It is a balanced split 12v system, with one positive ground battery and one negative ground battery. The only 24 volt accessory is the starter, where the batteries meet in a series to provide 24 volts for starting. All other accessories are 12v, half powered by the positive ground battery and half powered by the negative battery. The generator charges one battery in one direction and the other battery in the reverse direction. Therefore a 24v alternator is not easily adapted to this system.
The usual solution is to change to a 12v system with an alternator, changing the starter to 12v and changing the polarity of the positive ground battery to negative ground.
The cost of a 12v starter and alternator is far less than the cost of a 24v alternator, plus the added benefit of using 12v lights and other accessories.
JD switched to this 12v type of system with alternator during the 20 series production, but used two 6v batteries in a series due to the larger cranking amp rating of the 6v batteries occupying the same physical space.

Starting problem with a 1995 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder.

yes you need to replace the starter because most likely the seliniod is attached to the starter and you have to buy the whole thing
