How to fix archos 2 vision headphone jack problem i got the archos 1 year ago and my sis stole it and gave it back with a cracked screen and a headphone jack promblem... the earphones work fine but when i put it in the archos only one ear plays... PLAES HELP!

that happened when i first got my mp4. i just left it on charge for a few hours and eventually it turned on. it should tell you when its fully charged.

theres two ways mine can turn on; (its most likely very different to yours though)
theres a little switch on the top of the player and you flick that to the left side. or if its been turned on recently, you can hold the play button. does the instructions say to press the ok button?

Hi, archos vision 1 player not recognized by the computer

This may be caused by one of the following:
1. Minimum system requirements were not met.
2. Corrupted drivers.
3. Computer restrictions.
4. Power issue.

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions:

SOLUTION 1 - For brand new player or first time connecting to this computer.

For Windows XP users: verify the following operating system requirements are met.
- Windows XP SP2 or higher
- Windows Media Player 10 or higher

Download and install the latest Windows Media Player if it's not installed.

For Windows Vista users: If the player is seen in My Computer when using MTP mode, but not showing in Windows Media Player.
- Download the hotfix from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939211.
- Run the hotfix.

NOTE: If you are trying to connect to a Computer at work that is part of a network, there may be user right restrictions that are set to disable access to new hardware or stop any program installations. You may need to check with your IT administrator to see if this is causing the problem.



SOLUTION 2 - Refresh the driver

STEP 1 - Connect the archos vision 1 player to the PC
The screen on your player should turn on, show 'Connected' and indicate the battery charging or full.
- If the player does not turn on try other USB ports or on another computer if one is readily available. Ensure you are connecting directly to the computer USB port and not to a USB hub.
- If there is nothing showing on the screen and the player does show up in as a storage device in an explorer window, then the screen is just not working.

If you receive the error "USB Device Not Recognized" on the computer, the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.


STEP 2 - Check under Device Manager
1. Right-click My Computer, and select Manage.

NOTE: archos vision 1 Players can connect to your computer in MSC or MTP mode. Exceptions are archos vision 1 Connect and archos vision 1 Express which only use MTP mode. MTP mode is the recommended and default method for archos vision 1 Players when used with Windows OS.

The archos vision 1 player will show up on Device Manager's right pane as:
1. USB Mass Storage device (if the player is set to MSC)
2. Portable Device (if the player is set to MTP mode)

If there is a yellow exclamation point (!) or question mark (?) beside the device, try to refresh the drivers.


STEP 3 - Refresh the drivers
1. Right-click the entry with the error mark, select Uninstall.
2. On the top menu, click Action then select Scan for hardware changes.

NOTE: If a device with yellow exclamation point (!) continually appears and disappears, then the player is most likely failed. Additional troubleshooting is unlikely to correct the problem.

They come with 1-Year parts and labor warranty normally, so if you bought it less than a year ago, they might fix it for you! If you got it at Best Buy (for example) recently, take it in and ask.
If the headphone jack is attached to the motherboard then the only solution is to re-solder the jack (or a new jack) to the motherboard, if it has been detached. (I have tripped over a headphone cable once or twice and done this)
Hiring a tech to solder can be expensive and time consuming and it MIGHT be less expensive to replace the motherboard. If you are feeling tech-savvy yourself and know how to solder you may try to attach a new jack, since you know you will have to replace the motherboard anyway.
Unfortunately, your laptop does NOT have expansion slots, so the only way to add an another sound card would be USB external, which is very inconvenient for a laptop.
So YES. All things being equal, a new motherboard is your only option... that being said, attempting to fix the old one can only result in the same solution, at worst.

You need to insert a video-out cable in the headphone jack and press the TV button on top of the device. onnect the cable to the TV and the Archos screen should appear on the TV

press the reset button in the back with a pin or small pen, hold for 10 s or so.

I have seached EVERYWHERE on the net for a supplier for a replacement screen- and in eBay but it seems that there is absolutely no source. Even Archos won't supply a replacement screen direct. Their only solution is to send in the broken unit and purchase a replacement unit from them albeit at a cheaper price than a retail store. Their e-mail response is slow (or sometimes non existant). Only other alternatives are 1) to throw it away, forget about this brand completely and go for one that does offer spares or has 3rd party suppliers. or 2) try eBay for someone selling a recently bought item that they decided to dispose of in favour of a better make.
I went for 2) because I got one at a better price than Archos and because I had ordered a protective leather case for the one that broke (ironically if the case had turned up quicker I wouldn't have had this problem!)
Unfortunately Archos appear to ber uninterested in making parts available direct for from 3rd part suppliers for what seems to be a very common problem with this model. If they did it would cost way less than replacing the whole unit and I don't think it would be a difficult DIY job at all - but they just do not make it available. Full stop

My Archos 1 Vision. Wont play a particular music file. It has played it amazingly fine since i bought it 3 months ago. It was connected to my computer charging for a while, then i turned my system off so it was off for a while.
Wanted to listen to a few songs before bed,turned it on,selected Music,Scrolled down to the file i wanted,Went to select a song.........FROZEN! I can turn it off but the same thing happens everytime i go to select something from this file
Please help i need music on my travels ;-)

Where are you? There is a good repair center in Penrith. But that's no good to you if you are in Wyoming.
