Bought new Archos 5 (250GB one). Can't seem to get it to connect to Wifi (keep getting "connection failed" when I click on network even though it can see it OK - even though I've typed in the correct WEP key. Online manual mentions MAC address filtering but no idea what this is about or how to do this (it's a Netgear router).
Help please before I lauch the damn thing out the window!!
SOURCE: Cannot connect to network with WEP key encryption
It will not connect to a wireless network with WEP. it supports only the latest encryption. Try changing the encreption on your router to WPA or WPA2
SOURCE: Archos 605 wifi, simple can't
Check you router configuration
do you have mac filters enabled.
Check the signal
The device only supports wireless g (check your network is enabled for wireless g) Device is not backwards compatible and does not support anything other than band G
Change the wireless channel- sometimes there maybe a lot network traffic. Remember because its wireless your traffic could be conflicting with other wireless traffic.
Try pinging router and reseting
SOURCE: Web Browser Plug-in Archos 605
There is a seller on ebay (name is luhahaca) that says he is an Archos official Plug-ins reseller. Just search for 605 Plug-ins on ebay. He sells a four pack for only $38.00. I bought and installed them and they work great. Really makes the Archos functional - the way it should come out of the box. Actually, (sadly) the way it does seem to come out of the box - I was disappointed when I received my plug-ins download. All 4 plug-ins = 2kb. Web browser with widgets, extended movie and music capabilities and Real player mode. It seems to me that all of this is already in the Archos, they simply charge extra for a key to access it. It's a shame. Totally worth the price if you have an Archos, but really too bad they feel the need to force their hand into your pocket after you've just given them hundreds of dollars. I think the unit would be reviewed better, and Archos wouldn't look so petty, if these features were just enabled right out of the box. (my opinion anyways)
Anyhow, I hope that answered your question!
SOURCE: Archos 704 WPA/WEP
The WEP or WPA is the password to get onto the network. Think of the router as the doorman. The printer needs to get into the club so it needs the password otherwise it can't get access.
The WEP key and WPA passphrase are obtained from the wireless router or access point using the embedded web server on the router. See the documentation provided with your router to see how to access this information. Some routers provide more than one WEP key. Use the first WEP key if this is the case.

its probably because you dont have the most recent software on your device you should go to your websites device and try to figure things out.
