I am replacing a Kenmore Electric Cooktop 30 in 790.4272 and disconnected the wires from the cooktop and did not note where they are supposed to connect. There are no corresponding colors on the cooktop so I can't go black to black or red to red. Can someone tell me where to connect the black and red wires on the cooktop itself?

should be an unlock button.....press and hold the button until it unlocks

The cooktop will need to be removed from the counter. Turn it upside down and remove the screws. The biggest problem will be removing the cooktop from the counter. Sometimes it is not worth fixing as the part could cost around $400. NEVER use a cracked top as it could suddenly explode. This is tempered glass and very unstable if cracked or chipped.

The cooktop has to be examined for failure of the element or the switch. Some of the switches & some of the elements are still around. Have the elements checked for continunity. You will have to take it out of the counter and take the unit apart to do this.
