Do I need a converter box to watch TV or just an antenna

It depends on the tv itself, all newer TVs will just need an antenna but if the tv does not have the newer digital tuner in it (you can find out by googling the tv model number) You will need a converter box.

I want to watch free to air tv but there is no antenna port for my outside aerial the tv is a viano and is only a year old. I have austar and itmis working fine.

Which model Viano TV do you have? Some models have two different input sections. Some inputs are on the bottom of the TV The RF (coax) port and a few other ports (some models) are on the right side (as you face the back of the TV). This applies to the LED24DHD, https://iviano.com/tvs/23-6-full-hd-led-tv-with-built-in-dvd-player, and the LTV32HD, https://iviano.com/tvs/32-hd-led-lcd-tv-69 . I only see one model, the LCD37HD, that had only one input area. Several Viano TV manuals are available here: https://iviano.com/user-manuals .

However, there was a period when several manufacturers sold monitors as TVs. These did not have an OTA tuner (and no RF input) built in. For these TVs, you need a separate tuner connected to the TV using one of the HDMI or other video inputs. This can be a set-top box (some models now offer DVR features), a computer with a tuner (USB tuner or internal tuner card), or even an X-box with a USB tuner. Note: you'll need plenty of air space around the device. USB tuners can have even more over-heating issues.

I hope this helps.

I'm recording a movie with your vcr, DVR620KU. Is there any way to watch another tv station at the same time? I cant' find any answer in the booklet. Thx.

The DVR620KU doesn't have a tuner; see https://www.crutchfield.com/S-0n5sO0paa6L/p_052DVR620/Toshiba-DVR620.html for the specifications. What's the source for your recording? Does your TV have a tuner (ATSC)?

OTA signal with a TV with an ATSC tuner: If you have a digital (ATSC) to analog (NTSC) over-the-air converter box sending the NTSC signal to the DVR620, then the answer is maybe. Some models offer a pass-through feature when you daisy-chain the RF input. You will need to enable the feature in the setup menu of the converter box. Other models only pass-through the signal when the converter box is off. If you have a strong incoming signal, you can try using a splitter to feed both the TV and the converter box. (However, this will attenuate the signal to each tuner and even an amplifier/splitter combination may not allow enough digital signal for each tuner to resolve weak channels.)

For other set-top boxes (cable, satellite, etc.), it will depend on if you have multiple tuners available.

Please add a comment with more details about your A/V setup for more information.

Can I use my zenith TV tuner converter box model number dtt901 to watch my phone on TV

The Zenith DTT901 receives OTA (over-the-air) digital signals from TV stations and converts them to an analog signal to be used with an older analog television.

So the answer is no.

Ematic AT102 How do you program it to receive the cable channels when no cable box is needed?

Unfortunately, the Ematic AT102 does not have a tuner for cable television. It only has a ATSC (digital over-the-air) tuner. You need to connect it to an TV antenna and then search for channels. Depending on where you live, you may need an external antenna to get sufficient signal strength to receive local channels. See http://www.tvfool.com for signal strength information in your area.

Older cable signals are NTSC (same as analog over-the-air). Newer digital cable is QAM. (Some channels are broadcast as clear QAM which don't need a cable box with some tuners/TVs.)

To record your cable, you will need a different type of DVR/set-top box. An old VCR or DVD recorder with an NTSC tuner would work to record analog cable. There are a few ATSC converter boxes that also support clear QAM. This is one of the models: http://www.solidsignal.com/pview.asp?p=CM-7003 .

I wish that I had better news for you. Other options are available for NTSC, ATSC or QAM tuners. Please add a comment with more information about your cable service if you'd like extra information on these options.

Is the Magnavox TFT LCD 17 MF200v/17 have a digital or analog tuner?

I believe it has an analog tuner (NTSC) only. The original remote is pictured here: http://www.replacementremotes.com/philips/buy-313923807911-remote-control.html . The TV is listed as having been available in 2004 from Amazon.com. The manufacturer didn't have to include a digital tuner until 2005 for 36"+ models. For a 17" TV, they didn't have to have a tuner until 2007.

I hope this helps.

Can you please advise which external tv tuner will work for SONY trinitron kv-xf21m80 model? My SONY crt tv tuner is not catching most VHF B/G channels. i sought the services of an authorised service...

If you have a cable box and can set your TV to channel 3 then you should be able to watch cable. If you want to watch over the air broadcasts then you need a digital converter box which you can buy at Best Buy for around 40 dollars. You use the converter box as the tuner and set your TV on channel 3.

Can not tune tv since change over

The KV-32FS100 only has an analog tuner (NTSC). Unless there is a low-power analog station still broadcasting in your area, you will not be able to watch OTA stations. (I've got one in my area that barely comes in.) If your local cable still sends an analog signal, you won't need a set top box to watch that subscribed service.

Otherwise, you need a set top box to watch TV. A digital to analog converter (the boxes that were available with the government coupon before the switch over) will give you over the air stations. The basic models only provide SD output; there are a few HD models available. Otherwise, you can use a satellite reciever, cable box (for digital cable service), or something like the Boxee or Sling with tuner. (There are a few different models of the Boxee; one added a tuner with a USB dongle. The newest model of the Boxee has the ATSC tuner built in.)

Note: OTA digital signal quality is either a strong enough signal for the tuner or no signal will be present. You need to point the antenna in the correct direction to receive the signal from your local transmitters. The type of antenna and its placement will also change the number of watchable channels. You can use antennaweb.org or tvfool.com to get more information. Antennaweb assumes an outdoor antenna but gives a conservative list of stations. If the signal is split to several devices, you may need an amplifier to get a watchable signal. (Sometimes amplifiers fail and you won't receive any stations, so test without the splitter or amplifier by using a direct cable to one TV.)

I hope this helps.
