I woke up one morning recently with the oven door on "locked." The stove works, but the oven door will not open. As far as I know, nothing in the oven works. The "door" sign shows up on the window where the clock is.

Do not know what make or model you have , but most have an unlock button on the panel that has to be pushed at the same time you move the lever.

Oven door will not open after self clean

There are two easy things to try to fix this.

First, unplug the oven, or turn off the circuit breaker to it - so long as power is cut to the oven. Leave it for about 5 minutes, then plug it back in or turn the circuit breaker back on and try to open the door.

If that doesn't work, turn on the self-cleaning cycle again, and let it run for about 15 minutes. Then turn it off and wait another 15 minutes, and see if the door will open.

If neither of those work, you have a more serious problem with the locking mechanism. Either a bad solenoid or a damaged heat locking mechanism. Both of these will require removing the stove top to access and repair. Let me know if the above suggestions fix the problem. If they don't, I will get you more specifics on repairing the locking mechanism - assuming you're up for that.

My oven is locked and wont open. it is cold and wont unlock

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The locking of the oven is a safety measure while self clean function is activated. Once the oven has completed the cycle & has cooled down, then it will reset the door lock.

If a self clean oven door lock fails to open after the self clean cycle and sufficient cooling time has elapsed (approximately 1 hour), there are several things you can try.
  1. Unplug the unit or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
  2. Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
If these procedures fail to correct the condition or you were not using the self clean cycle, then, the lock must usually be accessed and moved manually to open the door—

In order to open the door you have to open the control panel and remove the door lock.

Remove the three screws from the bottom of the control panel. You'll heed a 1/4" open wrench. Pull the bottom of the control panel toward yourself and push it up to release from the upper tabs.
The door lock is secured by the three screws.

Jenn-Air stove locked

After the lock indicator light goes out, move the door lock lever to the left. The oven door can now be opened. Turn the selector and temperature knobs from clean to off AFTER THE DOOR IS UNLOCKED. If the temperature knob is turned to off BEFORE the door is unlocked, the door will not open. Forcing the lock will damage the lock mechanism. If this should happen, return the temperature knob back to CLEAN, unlock the door, THEN turn the temperature knob off. Oven Door Locked

the oven door does lock during self clean, otherwise it will not work. however, the door is supposed to unlock after the oven has cooled. if it is still locked, turn the oven to self clean and wait about a minute and then hit cancel and see if the door unlocks. if not, there may be a probelm with the door lock mechanism. Oven Door is locked and will not open

On many freestanding stoves the lock motor is located in the right rear (looking from the front) with a long rod connected to the lock. Pull or push the rod to move the lock to the open position..

We had the same problem as well. everything locked up and the display board went dead. It turned out to be the thermostat in the back. Once that was replaced everything worked ok. . The serviceman told us to pull the oven out from the wall when self cleaning. It is because the heat disapation and air circulation from the oven is very poor when running at maximum temperatures and this burns out components. First check the termostat, which is a $20.00 item.
