The high pitch noise is the color wheel that needs replace the noise is coming from a bad bushing that goes to the color wheel and is a common problem.

Dont worry, the problem is coincidental to you installing the Wii. You need a new lamp.
What you are seeing is the lamp ballast/power supply attempting to start and restart your lamp. The resistance of your lamp to it's power source has increased to the point that it is shutting down, but has not blown out yet. You can find these at justlamps.com

i dont think you have a bad bulb but what you might consider is having someone come out to have a look at the tv. if the bulb was bad you just woulnt have that color in the picture,
