  • A 6 Volt charger will charge a 12 Volt battery, it will just take twice the time to get the 12 Volt battery to full charge as a 12 Volt charger would take. V*I=W. It will take up to 36 hours to get a full charge from near dead but it will work just fine.

How do I know what your working with if you don't tell me? It's for a "Electric Kid Trax C6 Corvette" according to the original question. That comes with a 6 volt charger and a 12 volt battery stock. How can I be expected to know it something different?

That's completely false. You can absolutely use a 6 Volt charger on a 12 Volt battery. Not the other way around but you can do it the way I stated. Many of these rider type toys for kids come with 6 Volt chargers and 12 Volt batteries. That is fine.

That's a fact, what one needs to pay attention to is if it is regulated or a "floater" in regards to a 6 Volt charger. Being 6 Volts is not what makes it dangerous, it's weather the charger shuts off when capacity is met that's dangerous. Something the actual charger (6 Volt) that came with that toy did. Boiled batteries that is.

CAUTION!
CHARGER VOLTAGE COMPATIBILITY: NEVER use a battery charger
unless the battery voltage matches the output voltage rating of the charger.
For example, do not use a 12-volt charger with a 6-volt battery and vice-versa.

You will find this warning label included in the safety instructions that come with battery chargers. It is NOT recommended.

If she is not using the charger that came with it, then a safety precaution should be mentioned, "completely false" is your opinion.

Why wont a coleman model 58022 solar panel power a 12 volt test light

P/V=A

The panel is rated 6 watts at 12 volts 12 / 6 = 0.5 Amps

So in full sun the panel "should" produce 1/2 Amp at 12 Volts.

What type of 12V bulb and what is its current rating?

Hello Hermando, I assume your truck battery is 12 volt. You would want to select 12v 2a for a long slow charge or 12v 6a for a shorter faster charge.

Okay, I'm working on a scooter for my nephew that originally came with (2) 12 volt 12Ah batteries minus the charger. and I know I need to replace them with (2) batteries of the same 12 volts and lets

not exact, to charge apropiate needs 10% more than nominal voltage. if not, will not charge the batteries.
And the charger its very important because you can over charge the battery. An example,if you have a 12 Amps Batteries each one if you put it in series will be 24 Volts.at parallel conection will be 12 volts but the double of Amps.
At serial connection will be 12 Volts the amps will be the same but the volts will be 24.

The charger at 12 Volts must be 13.8-14.5 DC Volts and divide the Amps in Hours.
The charger at 24 Volts must be 26-28 Volts. to charge well.

The charger for 12 amps batt example must charge 2 amps per hour at 6 hours = 12 Amps.(2 Amps Charger by 6 Hours Charging= 12 Amps.(Fully Charged.
3 Amperes Charger needs 4 Hours to charge 12 amps Batt.
5 Amperes Charger needs 2 Hours charging an a quarter
All of this is at DC Current.

Luck.

24 volt, 172-743240

Sometimes, the charger will overheat and fail. Try unplugging the charger overnight, plug it back in the next morning, then place the battery in the charger after waiting a few moments. Normally, this will correct the charging discrepancy.

Battery dies after a few minutes

Is this a toy? Is this equipped with deep cell batteries? Checked the water? Check the voltage of each battery in the pack ... should be 6 volts each ... charger putting out? Check while charging ... should be 25+ volts (make sure you measure DC.

If you have a battery that is particularly low ... it will have to be charged independently ... If this is the case, with a 6 volt charger - charge that battery. If you have two batteries that measure low ... you can charge with a 12 volt battery. You will not have to disconnect anaything to do this ... just watch what you are doing ... do not use the unit charger AND the 6 or 12 volt charger at the same time.

My 2000 Yamaha golf cart has 6-4cell 8 volt batteries. I did not leave the cart plugged in during the winter months. When I attempted to charge yesterday, the charger lights sequenced but stayed on...

Yes to both questions. the charger must sense 41.5 volts to activate the relay inside the charger. Being a repair shop, I have a charger that is rigged to charge even DEAD batteries. I do not recommend this for the novice. A charger set on 12 volts will bring the batteries back up to 8.2-8.6 volts. A cheap trickle charger may not put out enough to charge a battery of this size. Remember that they are used to MAINTAIN a charge. Connect the Voltmeter and watch for voltage rise. If it rises to 8.1 or above, it is charging. Trojan battery company recommends charging at least once a month.
